If I have learned anything about boats, spend the money! A well built boat with very nice handling qualities is not something that is mass produced, like with any RC you get what you pay for. Andy at http://www3.telus.net/acboats/Home.htm builds some of the best boats in the world, tough as nails, smooth as silk in the water and world records for speed. It may be a little out of your price range but he can hook you up with a gasser that will pull 50 mph any day of the week in rough or smooth water. Where others would be blown apart in a high speed water crash, the AC boats will take it in stride. I run his boats so I speak from first hand knoledge, just look at some bigger boat forums (Jim's RC Boat Dock) and you will see people from all over the world talking about Andy's boats.
