Is it worth getting/upgrading to a TQi Radio from a TQ radio? If I get a TQi I would like the link which is an extra 40 dollars. And a gyro. Also is the TQ receivers compatible with the TQi radios? Planning on putting the stock TQ radios into the cars and keeping the radiolink for the mini b and buggy. Well. not sure. I might get another receiver so I can hook the radiolink to the mini b. Also I do want a good radio for my dad to use when we bash together.
I plan to get a few of the thumb steer steering wheels either from MSM or @Addict Rc if he is selling them. ;) https://msmvlog.com/collections/msm-garage-sale

Yes a TQI radio is compatible with TQ receivers. It's very easy to set up multiple cars with the link As well as steering end points, sub-trim, Throttle, braking, etc. The only drawback is if you have to adjust one of these settings, you need to go into the app on your phone.

What's cool is the Traxxas car that you turn on, the radio will automatically recognize it. I have a spektrum DX4C, a DX3C, and a TQi radio. For the feel of the radio in my big hands, I like the TQI radio. For bashing and casual track driving, the TQi works great. You will always be able to find traxxas receivers. DX3C receivers are not existent and DX4C receivers are much harder to come by these days.

If you decide to go with a new TQI, I'd be willing to let mine go. I have a transmitter and receiver from a barely used TRX4. PM me.

For the price I'd rather get a Flysky GT5 or a Radiolink RC6GS, I've had good luck with my RC6GS V2. You get much more from the Flysky or Radiolink for the price.

You can use tqi with tq receivers but no gyro. In reality if you use non gyro receiver, there is not a big difference. I would just buy more receivers for radiolink, they are much cheaper than Traxxas.

If you live in Chicago area I can give you tqi radio with Bluetooth module for free, I have too many Traxxas cars and radios and I tend to bind everything on couple radios, so I have a dozen that I am not using

Thumbs up for the generosity 👍🏼

Yea thats what I hate is you need a phone to adjust all of those settings. I would rather have it in my radio then on my phone.

Also depends on the price of the receivers. One of the traxxas receivers I had was faulty so I got the same one and it was 30 dollars (3 channel, TQ rx) Radiolink rxs cost 15-20 dollars. And I've seen 3 channel fly sky rxs go about 8 - 10 dollars.

The cool thing about that tx is that it is 5 channel and has the diff locker switch and 2 speed trans switch. i could use that for LED lights.

Yes. I have the RC4GS V3. I like all the functions it's just the quality of the plastic. (Broke the back half of the trigger, hopefully my CA glue will hold) What I might even do is get a RC6 and keep the RC4 for my dad.

It does seem silly that Traxxas does not offer a high end Radio with more adjustability on the radio itself; it’s not like no one would buy it…..
Until they develop an actual racing based RC like the Losi's, Kyosho's, and Associated kits, I highly doubt that will happen. And they would likely price it up there with the Futaba stuff, and well... 🙄

What I plan to do is keep my RC4GS and get a RC6GS. The RC4 I would give to my dad when we bash around. And I might keep the 2 spare traxxas radios I have or I might sell them.

Well traxxas is way overpriced anyways. A very basic TQ tx/rx goes for almost 60 dollars. Jennys RC has a TQi 2 channel for 40 dollars (save 80 dollars)
And while you can the RC4GS with 2 rxs for 90 dollars (like I did) or FS radios for 40ish dollars.

Yeah, I've encountered an issue with plastic quality, broke the housing and battery tray cover so I have to hold it on with tape. A Flysky GT5 may have better quality plastic.

I have had a GT5 for 7 years, cand live it. It's a nice radio. I was actually thinking about grabbing the Radiolink, just so I could see what they are like. Not sure about that now.

Yea, All of the functions are great, range, signal, response is great. It's just the quality of the plastic. I'm planning on keeping my RC4 until something major happens to it like the screen goes out or it doesn't work anymore. After if it does go out. I been looking at the GT5 and GT3 series of transmitters.

My first GT3 I bought 7 years ago. Just a few months ago, it stopped binding to receivers. I have yet to take it apart, so it may simply be an antenna wire issue.

My GT3b is about 11 years old and highly modded and its still working. I ended up buying a second one cuz I need more model memory :)

I recently bought a tqi with the 5 channel rx. I haven’t bought the Bluetooth module yet. I was kinda just going to see if I liked the radio enough to justify the extra cost of the module but I think I’ll probably go ahead and get it soon. The tqi is ok but like some others I wish Traxxas would just put a digital screen on the radio. I tried a Flysky gt3b before I got the tqi but it would never work right with my slash. I think it was just something with that particular rx/tx and not Flysky in general. I really liked the gt3 feel and ease of changing settings. Just never could get forward and reverse to work correctly. It was backwards no matter what. The tqi stability control is pretty cool. It actually works really well. And you can adjust it depending on how you want to drive. I turn it all the way up when my daughter is driving! By the way, when I tried to return the gt3 to Amazon they told me just to keep it and refunded my money, so I am probably going to experiment with it sometime to see if it will work with another rc or if it was just the slash it didn’t like.

Warning: if you use TSM (or AVC) too much, you’ll be crap at driving without it.
Yea I know. I don't have any experience with any kind of gyro before and I am pretty good at driving the 4wd buggy, 2wd mini buggy, and 2wd bashers so I think I'll be fine. But since I am getting into racing I am planning on either getting a FS NB4 or a futaba 4PM Plus.

Has anyone here used a Flysky GT5 for racing? I’ve already got one & will be building up a 1/8 electric buggy in the coming weeks.
…curious if using it is a good/bad idea.
Thanks.

I'm not sure about the GT5 but there are a couple who use the Flysky Noble NB4.
