Sooo I'm picking up my baja 5b rtr tommorrow from flm_savage and i need to know what i need to get for it to make it bashable. Any ideas????

Dont fix what isn't broken alpine. Just wait till something goes.
You will need to replace the plastic spur gear, thats a certainty. If it hasn't got a powerpipe (I didnt read the ad) then get one.
Outerwares covers for air filter and pullstart, 4600mah receiver pack, front window, shock covers and some heavy duty top rear arms.
That'll get you started....

After doing a years worth of searching heres what I have learned and am currently doing. A bumper is your friend, no matter what kind. Alot of people swear by the dark sole one but I think it hangs out to far. If your going to be any kind of good bashing or racing, rear lower aluminum arms are a good thing to have to stiffen up the rear end. A must, and I mean a must from what I have read and seen if a tuttle racing rear shock tower brace, and a aluminum front tower, or a brace, it keeps the suspension tight and makes the whole rig solid. That seems to be the hot chit for just your everyday basher. RPMs are nice to but I wouldnt upgrade those till stockers break lol. Hope this helps a little.

Aluminum arms are a waste of $$ IMO.

If you want to stiffen up the rear end, the Turtle tranny plate is the way to go.

They even have one for the front end.

Turtle HD braces for both the front and rear shock towers are a good upgrade.

Turtle reinforced drive cups are good as well.

Turtle clutch bell is much better than stock which tends to be out of round which causes wear on the clutch shoes.

Modified clutch cover keeps dirt and sand out of the clutch which will cause wear on the shoes.

Eventually your diff will fail if it is stock. If it does, upgrade to the turtle diff.

The Darksoul bumper may stick out, but it is designed to fold when you hit something. No other bumper will protect the front end like this one. You just bend it back into shape afterwards.

Darksoul axle extenders is a must have to prevent roll overs.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I would only recommend getting an Outerwwears Starter Cover and Airfilter cover.

Outerwears are definitely a must have.

Ditch the outer filter on the air filter and get yourself a TGN Redneck as well.
http://www.davesmotors.com/store/product1299.html

Stock inner foam with a Redneck outer foam and an Outerwears over the top is the best setup for the 5B.

If you want to cover the shock, go with Bad Horsie. The Outerwears are crap IMO.

You can easily spend 2 to 3 times of the cost of the 5B on aftermarket parts. Everything I have suggested will improve the durability and performance of the 5B. It is up to you on what is important to you.

Stay away from anything with the word Integy on it.

I can't stress enough, get the outerwears filter before you ever run it. I know it's used, but it's probably the most important part known to RC, and that's saying a lot considering the way I love my crawlers. Get the pull start filter and the air filter. It shocking how much stuff that motor will suck in through the pull start, and all it takes is a pebble to ruin a good day of bashing and cost a good bit of money.

Also, the shock shafts seem to be one of the biggest weak points of the suspension.

Rather than spending a ton of money on a pipe and running the stock engine, I would save up for a bigger engine and an SS pipe. The SS pipe performs pretty well, and the big bore head kits are not very expensive.

i go for the filters. Phatdad Shock shafts (I've bent stock shafts on a flat oval) Phats Dog bones and the TR Bell, and front/rear shock braces.

form there it depends alot on how/where you run.

elcon or lauterbacher adjustable clutch is good to have and a billet carrier if you do any serious sand or hard/fast running, the stock carrier will flex and the sand or heavy dirt running will eat your 20.00 shoe set in a matter of a tank to one gallon. I've got 5 gallons on my lauterbacher clutch with 1/2 that on sand, and atleast 8 gallons on the elcon with about 25% of that on sand. neither show anything over minimal wear still.

Hostile Tires cuz they will just outlast the DBs or Prolines and give better traction and are ALOT more durable period.

if you run on alot of bumpy stuff, take a serious look at the Threshold Ressi system. fully functional, adjustable and will make even some of the roughest running like a smooth buttery run.

If you want some more hole shot. Change the clutch and the pipe. Even if you don't want to spend a lot, pick up the pipe that is stock on the SS. Sounds MUCH MUCH better and is fully protected.

I read the other day Venom has a 6000mah or something battery for the 5b. Also a good kill switch is a must and I mean a must. Mine ran away but thankfully a bush caught it.

fully portected is a loose term where the hpi pipe is concerned. lol ya its in the roll cage, but that cage flexes and moves in rollovers/crashes and it WILL bend, damage, and otherwise stuff the thin aluminum walled HPI pipe.

I've already got the maxamps 4700mah battery, and the spektrum reciever has a switch built in to it.

I run the DDM 4500 mah Hump Pack and it lasts forever.

I didn't know of any 6000 mah sub c cells being available on the market, I would love a link to the battery if you have one. Is it a 10 cell pack?

I use a Spektrum DXR3 and it has a radio fail safe but no low voltage fail safe. :(

The remote kill switch that I posted for you is cool because it kills the engine if it looses signal or battery and you can shut the baja down from your radio.

I could be off on the mah. I'll dig up where I found it for ya as I was interested in one for myself. It could also be that I need to lay off the crack. :D:D:D
