Well my brother and I made each other early Christmas gifts. We both got Nitro Rustlers for our starter kits. We are new to this stuff. What my questions are;
1. What upgardes are needed on the Nitro Rustler?
2. What are the weak points?
3. How can I fix them?
4. Any other advice would be great.

the front c hubs are weak.. get aluminum. also the rear tower doesn't hold up to much abuse. they got aluminum for that to.. the shafts may give you problems in the near future but they got cvd's for that.. a rechargeable reciever pack helps with just about any rc but move it to the front to help with the wheelies, and get a fail safe

a stadium truck is more suited for racing on a track, if you plan i bashing and jumping and stuff, i would look into a stronger truck like a revo or savage.

This will be just a beginer truck. Street and some backyard. I need to learn before I get anything better. Thanks for the info.

My son has been racing and bashing with his Nitro Rustler for 5 years now. The only weak links we found were the rear shock tower and the shocks. Traxxas makes a graphite upgrade for the shock tower and the Traxxas Big Bore aluminum shocks we added to his work flawlessly. Those are my 2 upgrade suggestions.

Where can I get these parts?

Also what battery is used in the Rustler? Do I need to order the Part #3037 Battery, RX Power Pack (5-cell hump style)?

I'd recommend a metal gear steering servo and assuming you don't already have one, a fuel filter. You can order them online here http://towerhobbies.com/ or you can always try your local hobby shop.

I would reccomend www.ssrcracing.com for the rustler parts availible... He makes good stuff. I would replace the rear bulkhead, both shock towers, shocks, hubs, and axles...

The Traxxas part number for the fiberglass shock tower is 4440 and the big bore shocks are 2660 (front) and 2662 (rear), Losi Truck springs are good fit and choice to use with the big bore shocks too.
Here are links to Tower for the shock tower and big bore shocks.

The 5 cell hump pack is what you want too, but you can save a few bucks by getting either the duratrax 1100 or the venom 1200.
