My buddy Jason the owner of RCCRAWLER.COM posted the picture of this truck on his bookface(Facebook) account the picture was took at the Shifters car show. I saw it and wanted to build a scaler like it from the get go. I started building this back in '09 I still have most of the parts from the build but the want to build it petered out and I threw it all in a shoe box. I am going to use a Tamiya big rig i-beam axle in the front and the rear axle will come from the same kit. The trans will still be a AX-10 trans I am not sure of the electronics as of yet.

That will be sweet! I wanted to do a low rider nissan scaler but never got to it.

Here is where I am at as of tonight.

I picked up the chassis from a local guy and the tires and wheels came from my LHS and are made by HPI. The front and rear axle came from a 1/14 Tamiya semi truck and here is some mock up shots and the way is seat tonight. I still need to paint it and cut a skid out of derlin for the truck. I have to order another Scx-10 transmission and pick up some cheap electronics. After looking at this thing it would make a good tow rig for a tiny tear drop camper or even a drifter or T/A racer. Just need to get some paint on it and have fun with it. :hehe:

Thats a great start bro.

Sweet looking build so far, Chip.

Nice! I think the rear wheels need some spacers get'em out closer to the body.

I am going to have to do something but I do not want to get the tires to close to the fenders. Putting a wider hex will not work because the axle have splines not the normal pin drive set up. If the tires are too close they balloon out when the truck is under power and hit the body. I plan on lowering the truck a little more. I kinda like them tucked up under the body like they are.

I've never seen tires balloon in width, only diameter. Usually side rub comes from body roll or chassis flex when cornering. Moving the tires is just my opinion, build it how you like it and it'll still be cool

n very nice build!!! I have been thinking about doin something like this after my crawlers are all done.. I have those same tires and rims on my rs4 cuda.. I think you need to have the nose alittle lower than the rear for that meaner stance, like in that picture at the begining.. it looks nice as is just my .02 for ya.. you should get that thing painted!!!

I had to see what it looked like. :ror:

Thoughts ?

Rear looks good, front looks bad.

On a side note, that's an awesome truck. My dad had one, I have fond memories of heading out to the local lake for parties in that truck. I picked up a body like that a while back, but never went the direction I really wanted to go with it. Now I want to make one!

Can't wait to see your finished project!
