Hey all,

I am new to RC cars/trucks i would like to get RC car or truck 1/10, I did little research i would go with electric rc but i dont know which one to chose for beginner? budget is around $300 but also i would like to add to truck a snow plow? something like this

Thanks

Looking at the rig there, that's a LOT more than $300. But it looks like a Monster Truck or M/T. Here's one that's just over your budget at $329.99 with a $20 off coupon: http://www.horizonhobby.com/product/cars-and-trucks/20-off-ecx-item-over-199/electric-cars-and-trucks/1-10-ruckus-4wd-mt-bl--avc:-rtr-p-ecx03016

It's reasonably good quality and is ready to run. Horizon Hobby also carries replacement/upgrade parts that may be needed.

i see there is not many good one in range 300 tho all are above lol which one is good from below? what else should i look for before getting RC? can i upgrade any of those?

Forget the Blackout on ebay. I've never heard of it.
Stick with HPI or Traxxas for hobby shop support and endless upgrades.
A few more bucks up front will save you a LOT down the road.

I could only recommend the Stampede as a starter. The HPI Savage XS and the 1/16 Summit are minis and in my opinion aren't quite as tough as the larger trucks. I have the 1/16 eRevo VXL myself and can say that I did have to add some things that would take out of the price range your looking at.

what is difference between stampede and savage xs? which one would be better option like for durability, parts, speed and fun ?
budget would be around 300-400 ? depends on truck if i like it?

The difference is the size. The larger scale 1/10 Stampede would have the advantage in that it could handle more power with different ESC/motor combo. I'm not sure that the Savage XS can do that . The original Savage X Flux was tough as nails but was slower than the similarly sized eRevo Brushless Edition using the same rebadged Castle Creations ESC/Motor.

My advice is to get the Stampede and learn to drive it well and then upgrade it as you break items. Then as you get to know the truck, you can upgrade to a brushless ESC/Motor and LiPo batteries for more speed.

The first upgrade that you might consider is a good charger such as this one that will charge 2 batteries at the same time: http://www.horizonhobby.com/boats/chargers--1/x2-400-2-port-multicharger-hrc44170

It will charge/balance all current battery types and can be used with any future vehicles.

what is difference between brush and brushless motor? ufff that charger is little bit to high LOL i would like to see if i like it before i do upgrades like that hehe
i would start with small upgrades tho

A brushed motor uses brushes to the rotor making spin. A brushless energizes the magnets using an alternating current.

if you want to do a snow plow then you might want to find a company that actually makes one for RCs and see what kits it compatible with because there arent to many snow plow upgrades floating around out there that I know of, unless your planning on making a custom one. Id stick with something from a name brand either way though. Traxxas, HPI, Losi, OFNA, associated and the like.

Check out some used stuff too. You can always keep your budget in range that route. Also have a look at axial or rc4wd stuff. Not sure if you want fast or slow tho. And yeap Traxxas is good too.

Forgot to mention HPI Racing as well.

I would NEVER recommend buying a used Nitro to someone new. That's asking for trouble.

Used can often times lead to someone having all kinds of problems that a person new to RC wont be able to deal with. Theyre liable to get frustrated and quit the hobby because when you're new you just want to have fun (at least at first) and if you end up with something that has hidden issues (which is sooooo often the case with used RCs) then its gonna be nothing but frustration. I bought used for my first RC and it almost caused me to quit the hobby. not to mention I was so frustrated I almost just chucked the freakin' thing in the pond by where I was trying to run. I've also bought several used kits since then and most of them have not been good experiences so I still dont buy used all that often now either even though I know how troubleshoot just about any issue now.

If I do buy used now a days though you're right I look for kits that are unopened or at least not put together or somethign that has obviously only had light use. For example if the skid play look new or at least isnt scratched up a lot.
