I have to ask 5 people 21 or older the difference between the two for my american government class. All i need is a short 1-2 sentence answer. please post, i don't want to actually go out an ask people .

There's no difference...they all love to make promises they don't keep, screw over the public by starting projects we don't want, and generally just stop representing us and representing themselves for their own personal gain.

How many more do you need? We can repeat ourselves.

thedominator - regarding the difference with personal opinion removed in order to help you with your project:

REPUBLICANS:

- Ususally are more right wing.
- Usually conservitive in nature.
- Prefer less government intrusion in personal life.
- More moralistic.
- Believe heavily in Capitailsm.
- Usually appeal to more of the upper class income levels.
- Believe in strong military

DEMOCRATS:

- Usually labeled as the liberal party.
- Have more debated views such as pro-abortion and anti-death penalty.
- Usually encourage bigger government control.
- Do not support the military as much as republicans.
- Originally developed as the party for the working class.
- Strong on government assistance programs.
- Usually will increase taxes.

Hope that helps.

Republicans: Believe in letting hard working people keep there money.

Democrats: Believe in taking hard working peoples money & giving it to those who don't work.

Can you see the difference here?

I have yet to see a true democrat or republican in office. Most people in office or in political acquaintances, will preach what their party beleives in BUT will still do the same thing as the person across the hall ... lie, cheat & steal.

I enver beleive the promises they make because it'll always be the same crap and finger pointing in the end. We, as the voting citizens, will always get shafted in one way or the other becuase they, the political office holders, will always take the road less protested.

Hope this helps clear things up

Subject: The Ant and the Grasshopper

OLD VERSION:

The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his
house and laying up supplies for the winter.

The grasshopper thinks he's a fool and laughs and dances and plays the
summer away. Come winter, the ant is warm and well fed.

The grasshopper has no food or shelter, so he dies out in the cold.

MORAL OF THE STORY: Be responsible for yourself!

**************************************************

MODERN VERSION:
The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his
house and laying up supplies for the winter.

The grasshopper thinks he's a fool and laughs and dances and plays the
summer away.

Come winter, the shivering grasshopper calls a press conference and
demands to know why the ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed while others are cold and starving.

CBS, NBC, and ABC show up to provide pictures of the shivering grasshopper
next to a video of the ant in his comfortable home with a table filled with
food.

America is stunned by the sharp contrast. How can this be, that in a
country of such wealth, this poor grasshopper is allowed to suffer so?

Kermit the Frog appears on Oprah with the grasshopper and everybody cries
when they sing, "It's Not Easy Being Green."

Jesse Jackson stages a demonstration in front of the ant's house where the
news stations film the group singing, "We shall overcome." Jesse then has
the group kneel down to pray to God for the grasshopper's sake.

Tom Daschle & John Kerry exclaim in an interview with Peter Jennings that
the ant has gotten rich off the back of the grasshopper, and both call for
an immediate tax hike on the ant to make him pay his "fair share."

Finally, the EEOC drafts the "Economic Equity and Anti-Grasshopper Act,"
retroactive to the beginning of the summer. The ant is fined for failing to
hire a proportionate number of green bugs and, having nothing left to pay
his retroactive taxes, his home is confiscated by the government.

Hillary gets her old law firm to represent the grasshopper in a defamation
suit against the ant, and the case is tried before a panel of federal judges
that Bill appointed from a list of single-parent welfare recipients.

The ant loses the case.

The story ends as we see the grasshopper finishing up the last bits of the
ant's food while the government house he is in, which just happens to be the
ant's old house, crumbles around him because he doesn't maintain it.

The ant has disappeared in the snow.

The grasshopper is found dead in a drug related incident and the house,
now abandoned, is taken over by a gang of spiders who terrorize the once
peaceful neighborhood.

President Bush actually wanted to keep the Assult Rifle ban. He is a republican.

Anyways, you don't have to be 21 to vote, only 18. Go register.

Democrats work with there hands and sweat.
Republicans are the ones that democrats talk about at work.

Politicians are the same all over. They promise to build a bridge where there is no water.

George Bush Sr. got elected by saying again and again, "Read my lips....NO new taxes". He raised them, but put a spin on what it was by calling it a financial initiative or something like that. He was a Republican.
Bill Clinton got elected by promising national health care. He appointed his wife to deal with it. It failed. We got nothing and they didn't try again. He was a Democrat.
It just doesn't matter. We vote them in on their bs, and either re-elect them or vote them out on more bs.
Any way you look at it, we get to listen to ALL the bs from both sides, and then choose the bs that might taste the best. We'll get to eat it in the end.

thank you all for the variety of answers. I don't think i would have got as funny answers(like fasteddy's) if i asked people in person. :)

I know it's a little late inthe power curve but here's the basic gist of the difference:
Democrat - more people orientated conservative attitude
Republican - more military and literal (from one combat vet, Republican = more times being sent to new, faraway lands meeting new and interesting people then killing them.)

Here's my unbiased spin:

A republican sees the boss drive to work in a fancy car and says to himself, "I'm going to work hard and someday I will be the boss in the fancy car. A democrat says to himself, I'm going to go on strike so the company goes out of business, then he won't have a fancy car either".

Republicans know that this is the greatest country in the world, that people die trying to get in almost every day. Dems see nothing but fault in every aspect of the US. Dems are born protesters. It doesn't matter what the cause is, as long as there is an excuse to march in the streets, demanding this, that or the other thing. When the World trade organization is in town, the people throwing rocks through the windows of macdonalds and starbucks are definitley liberals, and probably democrats. Ironically, most protestors are actually the children of privalege. Ever wonder why they are able to riot in the streets, rather than being at work? Its often because they are college kids, exploiting the earnings of a successful parent. Another irony of liberal protestors is that the marxist/socialist countries they idolize would shoot them in a heartbeat for protesting like they do.

Republicans know that law abiding gun owners dont cause crime. Dems try to restrict guns because that is easier to do than admit that their constituents are the real cause of violent crime. Why do dems prefer to restrict the rights of law abiding gun owners rather than push for executions of repeat violent criminals? Because the criminals are their relatives.

Democrats are the party of criminals, lawyers, and illegal aliens. They stay in power by playing Robbin Hood, constantly working to take more money from the people earning it, so more people will come to depend on the handouts, thus creating more democrats. Most young people are dems, due to the deliberate socialist programming of public schools and collages. As soon as a person gets a taste of self-earned success, they are no longer so enthusiastic about ever higher taxes, and they often become repubilcans when they get older. Libs work hard to supress the fact that success is much more a matter of staying out of jail and getting up when the alarm goes off, rather than waiting for a gift from the government.

Just go ahead and turn this post in verbatum, I give you permission to quote me!

Edit: I want to make clear that there are plenty of problems with republicans too. They are the party of choice for american religious fundimentalists, which are almost as scary as islamic fundamentalists. They would control what we watch and read as much as the Taliban did if they could. Any time a person starts to believe they alone know the truth about God, and believe they have a duty to enforce their beliefs on others for their own good, then atrocities happen. It doesn't matter whether it is muslim terrorists or Baptists bombing abortion clinics, religious violence and intolerance is wrong. Bush knows this and he keeps them at bay with little bones like the gay marrage amendment which he knows won't pass. I think lots of Dems do the same thing with gun control, saying they are for it but avoiding doing anything serious.
