I thought my redcat sh 21 had rings which is why i mentioned itThat is awesome to see old engines still being loved. I don't think any nitros that small have rings. Hope that helped somewhat.
Thanks i might've misremebered since its been a feq months. If you want to see this engine run by the way ill be posting a video whenever i get around to ordering a bump box ( i have two of these and one them is fully rebuilt )Oh ok, no worries. Your redcat engine definitely doesn't, just a different piston design may have lead you to think that.
Happy rc'ing!
I also have a post about the trucks i got with it. Its actually my profule picture too!Cool, look forward to seeing an update!

I thought when I was taking apart my redcat engine it had a small ring. After taking the piston out i think you're right. I wouldn't have thought that they would make a detent. It seems uselessQuite a few of the nitro pistons I"ve had had rings cut into the piston. Not sure what their purpose was, maybe to try and hold oil? They weren't actual mechanical/spring rings like a normal engine, just a detent in the piston. Well... I could have swore some of them did anyway.
This is the only piston photo I have from one of the many engines I've had over the years... it didn't seal well anymore. lol! It was an OS 21RG:
One of the ball bearings in the rear bearing split in half and went through the engine like a hammer drill. Made a mess out of the poor thing.
