Has anyone else stripped a servo gear cause i stripped one in my steering servo and i just wondered how common it was and might by a servo with metal gears.

A metal gear servo will last longer.
The first thing I would look at it Why?
Is your servo saver functioning properly? The need to be replaced frequently. Another good choice is to upgrade to the Pro-Line servo saver.
The stock steering servo is lacking. Every review I have read says the same. Before I even broke in tank 1 I put in the HiTec 5645mg servo and 5 cell hump to drive it hard. 6v makes a difference on a high torque servo. I also am a firm believer of metal gears and no centerring pods on monster trucks. Simply due to the ebating these ride go through. Even some high end plastic gear/center pod servos will get roached quickly on a monster truck. Just keep this in mind when you go to rebuild or buy a replacement. The throttle servo should be fine.
Here is a good link to show you the differences in the HiTec line.
