Good to see that John at ProModeler refunded your money. Hopefully others will learn from this experience and use servo savers in vehicles that will be used for bashing or where impacts to the steering system could result in a failure (something has to give, always). I believe that even if some people get away without using a servo saver in a vehicle like this with other brand servos, its still not a wise thing to do long term; kind of like gambling at the casino. If you are on a winning streak then know when to stop and collect your winnings because the longer you play the game the more likely you will lose everything because the odds are in the houses favor always, long term anyway.

I tried to look up the weight of the 1/18 scale LMT but couldn’t find it in my short quick search but I bet its heavy for that scale. Looking at the stock picktures I can see a big honking servo saver on that stock servo in the pictures. 😁

That's great @Hammer Down

Nobody's bashing his product. At least I didn't think so. They really are well made and have good specs/prices. It's unfortunate you happened to have had bad luck with yours. I think this was more about customer service.

Good to hear they refunded you, after the grumbling.

That has a plastic geared servo more than likely. So yeah, a servo saver is needed. Our Ryft is big, heavy, and fast. I don't use a saver. The big plush tires absorb any impact and it does fine. Like I said, I have micros I run that I wouldn't be scared to run without a servo saver.

And by the way, Tekin supplies this aluminum horn with their servos.

Not applicable now but:
At the very least offered a discounted set of replacement gears for the given situation.

WickedFog, it says on the Losi website that they use a metal geared servo in that LMT. See attached picture.

Big squishy tires would help absorb impact that would reduce stress on the rest of the drive train. Is that a standard size servo on that Ryft since that looks like a 1/10th scale RC to me. Standard size servos are going to have bigger gears and thus may take more abuse.

Its sort of like using metal suspension control arms and similar components vs plastic ones. The metal ones are stronger but they give less and transfer the impact energy into the chassis and may break that instead. Plastic control arms have more give and thus don't transfer as much stress to the more expensive and harder to replace parts.

There is a reason they call that thing a servo saver because it generally saves the servo from breaking under steering impact loads. 😉 😂

Well, that's good to know they put metal geared servos in them. But it's still a weak ass Spektrum 🤪

Yes, the Ryft is 1/10. But it weighs a helluva lot more than a 1/18 scaler, and strengths of materials and stresses applied to them would be scaled up accordingly. My point is, that is a 1/18 scale truck. I have 1/18 scalers that I don't run a saver in. One has aluminum everything on it. I also have an FMS Smasher monster truck that I won't be running one on, which has an aluminum chassis, bigger tires, and will have metal axles.
