How cold is too cold for nitro?

Because abc engines are tight when they're cold. As they warm up the chrome plated brass sleeve expands more than the aluminum piston, which loosens the engine. A cold engine is forcing the piston up and down with more friction, causing pre-mature wear and stress over time.

This also explains how a perfectly tuned engine can be sluggish and rich for the first few minutes of running.

Gasoline -45 F , Methyl Alcohol 52, Nitromethane 95*°F). ok , just add some gasoline should light nitro better in the cold. the top fuel guys use gasoline to start the top fuel engines. the different from nitro and gasoline is 140 deg f.
