disc pads

on my dd brake kit i have brown pads on my brake pads but my mate has tyhe single brake kit and got it home checked it and he dont have the brown stick on pads into more invesuigation it says it shouldnt is this right?

the single brake kit isnt a metal disc, so it doesn't get hot like the dual disk metal on metal contact would be therfore it doesn't need the pads.
