Anyone know how to fix this problem? Would LST2 fiber/plastic/whatever (not metal) brake pads help with this?

When my AS rolls a few feet, not under power, the brake disks go at an angle and bind, very badly. I think they are the cause for my recent axle snap.

This is a vid of the problem on my workbench. I have a drill on one of the wheel hubs just to spin the drive train. It isn't really clear, but you can hear the "chink chink chink" sound as it lightly binds, then you hear it stop and the disks slam to an angle.

A small amount of grease on the outdrive cup where the disks ride should fix it. It doesn't have to be allot. You can also use an 8ight brake disk(the bigger one) with the three steel pads. It won't bind and gives better braking performance.

looks like to me the bearing inside the tranny or the shaft might be bent hope this helps

I couldn't really tell from the vid, but are you sure nothing is bent? It wouldn't take much of a bend to throw things out of whack.

Nothings bent. It did this during break-in. The more the disks wear, the more prominent it gets.

It's fine if you spin the trans backwards. My savage did this when I had the dual brakes. It's why I ditched them.

What did you have to do to cure the brake problem?

CF brake disk and a stronger throttle/brake servo (590). I'm using vertigo's single 3mm thick brake disk. Works well after a few tanks of fuel are run through it.

i have the same problem i just loosened up my pads a bit and fixed my linkages so i still get the same braking power and everything seems to be fine!!!

It seems like everyone has allot of great ideas for you buddy! What you have to make sure you do before spending money and replacing parts is to tear the truck down to properly diagnose the issue. If the truck is braking on it's own you must double check all gears by opening them up and make a complete inspection for dirt, rust, broken teeth or bearing spillage (look real close, cause I missed one little bearing in a tooth once, lol hrs of labor). Anyone of these things should be looked at first in your differentials and the tranny. Blow them out, (keyboard air spray is a nice substitute) then a complete inspection before lubing them up. If the problem persists after that, then you may want to start replacing some parts. My whole brake is metal and I have never had it as the problem. It was some other issue that has made the braking system all screwed up! Best of luck!

Bump....I searched and found this. Can you tell me which 8ight parts I need to upgrade my brakes? I want to try them on my xxl. Thank you.

My guess would be the larger disk from either of these:

Could also try one of avids:

This is the one I went with:

Keep in mind, mine worked best with a much stronger servo (170oz). No binding though after 3 years of running.

I saw that quasi thing somewhere yesterday, thank you for the links.

You have just one disc?

Yep, I do, carbon fiber. Like I said though, requires a pretty good servo to make it work. May work better with an avid disk and a lighter servo.

A buddy of mine ran the dual CF integy (i know... integy...) on his LST2 and they did a really nice job running the stock servo.
