2.5 engine swap

Hey guys, been combing the net for days searching for good replacement engines for my two 2.5 engines in my tmaxxes. Its obvious that the os18tm is a thing of the past, I've read about the os 18cvrx or the os.15cvx being a good replacement, the 21tm is a bit expensive to buy 2 of. I'm a bit confused on what all I would need to install the cvrx, slide carb, rotary, short shaft..etc, can anyone give me any insight on this? Thanks for your time! Mike
 
I have a .18 CVR in my maxx that I'm selling. Its an awesome motor. Very fast and was pretty easy ti get tuned in and running right.

What all was involved in the swap? What are you using for a starter? I'm considering the 3.3 swap, just cause its cheap and can still use the eazy start setup, i would prefer os but it just depends how involved the conversion would be...Thanks for your time
 
I used the stock motor mount for the truck. Its got a rotary carb on it also. I used a pull start because when i bought the truck there was no easy start on it. I had a modify the mounting holes in the chassis a little to get the gears to mesh properly but only slightly. This was in a maxx that had a pro .15 so it may be different for the new maxx. I would check with OS http://www.osengines.com/ for more info. Hope this helped.

Not sure if OS offers the CV-R with a slide carb or pilot shaft.

To install a typical CV-R in your rig (rotary carb, standard threaded shaft) you may need to cut the crank to the proper length. I can't remember, I think I had to cut the crank when I used the older 15CV-R (predecessor to the 18CV-R). Safer to get the standard crank, then cut if it necessary.

The OS is a good solid engine, but as you can see, costs a bit to use it.

Found the 18CV-R with pull-start, standard crank and slide carb:

That wouldn't require the linkage I posted above, which is pretty flimsy. Will require everything else though.

Thanks for the replies..the cvrx looks like the right choice for what I'm doing, jus wanna keep it simple but fun, I had horrible look with the 2.5 engine, when it ran it was great, but very seldom would it run:)..thanks for the replies...going os!

That os is very reliable and consistent. I've run quite a few OS engines including that one in the past and all of them were great for reliability and general tune. Should give you less issues than the TRX2.5.
 
I had a OS .18 tm in a Revo nice and reliable, very good engine. I do have a Picco/Werks P2 drop in engine brand new. It would cost you about $90 shipped to your door. Could be a cheap way to get a nice engine for your Tmaxx. They have more power then the .18 tm and nice quality engine! I bought it at Stormer hobbies when it was on sale a month or two ago. Nice engine, Nice deal. PM me with your email if you want pics.
