It has been a long time since I've been here! I've been running gobs of wheel bearing grease in my tranny and I'm talking everywhere inside the tranny. It always shifts flawlessly. I would have to ask if someone can explain to me how grease could stop a locking centripital fly-out finger for...
O.S plugs are considered the most reliable plugs by most experienced R/Cer's, however that obviously is still an opinion! I have never experienced a plug burning out so fast as the McCoy plug did, perhaps it was a defective plug, but I didn't do anything unusual to it, it just broke in the...
Only buy O.S. brand plugs! I bought Mccoy plugs and they burned out within a week! I just wanted to try a colder plug so that's why I went with McCoy because they are cheaper but not worth it!!! I have O.S. plugs and not a single one has burned out on me after 3 years in the hobby! They're a...
I doubt you caused much harm to the engine, a way to tell is when it has been running and it's hot, turn over the flywheel with your finger. If it has a good amount of compression when it hot, that will tell you a lot. I would go with the Hyper 8-port over the P4 Ofna .25, the little addition...
I wonder if the green thread lock is new. I've never seen that before, but then again there are a lot of things I've never seen. I agree with what you're saying about HPI taking care of business, I think thier web forums are helping them to resolve thier problems. I just really wish that the...
The Hyper is probably a much better engine than the .21BB. The poor Savage is going to get alot of bad rep. for the set screw and the weak engine. That's too bad because it really is a truck that deserves good ratings. What noise is the engine making that you don't like? That plastic piece...
Obviously it's better to do it yourself, but some less experienced people might be tempted to send it to HPI. On the other hand, if you're going to be playing with nitro R/C then it's alot better to just dive in and learn what you are doing.
P.S> Green loctite??? I thought they only made it...
I'm gonna add another vote, Duracrap bites it hard. I owned a Max ST and compared to my 1/8th Worlds GT and MP it's a boys toy. The Max ST broke every time I turned around, well maybe I should have been watching rather than looking the other way! No just kidding, but not about Duracrap leaving...
Yes, you can mix your own fuel but it won't nessesarily have all of the additives it really needs. Some castor oils such as Koltz brand has the corrosion inhibitors added but it cost like 5 bucks a half a quart. I run airplane model fuel in my OS-RG .21 and it runs fine with it. By the way...
He is correct, and when you take apart the tranny, if you do and don't plan on sending it to HPI, then I would also grease the one-way bearing while you're in there. You must use loctite on the set screw to prevent it from backing out.
You mentioned that no one that you've heard of has blown any gears in their Savage. Grease wouldn't stop that from happening anyways nessassarily, grease would be used more to prevent wear, not failure due to torque and stress. I still say you're ahead to definately grease the one-way. Have...
If what you are saying is correct about dirt getting into the grease, then I would say chances are even better that dirt will get into the ring and pinion gears for the diff. Those gears are greased from factory and not sealed well at all, in fact I beleive the tranny is sealed much better...
I think people who work for HPI spread that kind of thinking, It's a bunch of bologna. I greased up the tranny with no problems at all, and I especially greased the one-way bearing. If that one-way wears out, there goes about $15 to $18 and I don't want to keep having to take that Savage...
Other than the possibility of dirt getting in the grease, is there any other reason it is bad to lightly lube the tranny? Also, what do you think about greasing the one-way bearings?
When my buddy got his Savage, we took the tranny apart to loctite the 2 speed set screw that has been reportedly causing people problems and we lightly greased the gears while we were at it. On another discussion board, some fella tried to tell me that that was a bad idea??? The trucks drive...
I'm with ya, nothing wrong with experimenting and using physics to work things out, that's what it's all about! I didn't figure out how to properly compress sleeves the first time, it took some experimenting and R&D. I agree about the termal expansion charactoristics being much different and...
I guess I will just say, if it's working for you, go with it. I can't say for sure, because I've never tried it, but I can't imagine that being a fix that will last too long, heating it that hot and not cooling it properly may mess with the temper of the piston and make it wear out even faster...
