I think FEMA should make these people responsible for re-paying the charges that were made to non qualifying merchants. The most simple way would be to put a hold on their tax refunds. I'm sure most of the people that abused them dont file but its a start.

FIMA is a joke to begin with. They are probable thinking to reverse the charges and make the merchants that sold them the product suffer the loss.

Shouldn't the "Victims" have to prove they suffered loss and account for the money they spent? I'm sure FEMA thought it was easier just to drop money from an airplane. Hay I have a PO Box in N.O. Whares my card?

Shocking? No, not really. Just another offshoot of the entitlement mentality that an ever-growing segment of our population is fostering.
"Hurrincane just swept my house away. Oh, thanks for the card. Now I can get me some porn!"

The unfortunate result of this will be when future natural disasters wreak havoc. FEMA did the best they could, in my opinion, by issuing these debit cards because the chief complaint arising out of these disasters is the slow relief efforts rolled out by FEMA, Red Cross and the like. What I think will happen is that, even though probably a small percentage of folks abused these cards, FEMA will now require more proof of need before issuing the card which will result in a delay in relief efforts overall, then the uproar will begin again about the time it took for relief money to roll in.

I'm in no way suggesting folks that live in high-risk areas be made to move and that they're idiots for remaining, because that's ignorance at it's height. What I don't understand, however, is that these same people who continue to experience losses as a result of repeated natural disasters seem to not learn or prepare adequately based on their previous experiences. Can you be 100% prepared, absolutely not, but I do believe you can mitigate your suffering by doing some basic due diligence beforehand. When my family lived in Montgomery, AL we were exposed to many tornadoes resulting from hurricanes in the gulf. We always kept the basics on hand, just in case (food, water, batteries, etc.) but I do remember my father having a separate checking account based out of a bank in his hometown of Alliance, OH with a checkbook in our "supply" closet, just in case he needed quick cash. I don't think he ever had to tap into those funds in all the years we lived down there, but it was good to know we had the means if needed.

I'm in agreement with Eddy, pursue those individuals with fraudulent charges as best you can. Withold tax refunds, put liens on their property, whatever but don't stick the merchants, it's not their fault!

Bastards, they need to be made to aid in clean-up and rebuilding efforts until their bogus charges are worked off!

Just goes to show you, give people an inch, they take a mile.

along with welfare and any other public assitants id say 60% is fraudulant cases....i worked on a rental unit and i was talking to the lady she told me her family was moving the hawaii from micronisia and i asked why she told me they have no free medical or welfare there.....god can you beleive were paying TAXES to suport foreigners..i was pissed

I agree 100%, I got tired of seeing these mofo's shop like there was no tomorrow. They bought poop I couldn't think of buying. This is what happens when you put money into the pockets of people that have been on welfare and food stamps their whole life, they have no clue what it means to earn a dollar or how it feels to have to pay taxes out the ass to support their lazy asses.

This goes for all the scum bags taking advantage of the system in anyway shape or form..... My favorite was when the rapper Old drity bastard (god rest his soul) was on tv and he picked up his welfare check in his stretch limo.....

Ya mean my stripper party wasn't considered "relief"....Damn..

Candyman hit it...it's the entitlement philosophy these people are harboring that makes this bad.......I lost property too, but I didn't run down and pick up 2k from uncle sam for non-essential items (couch and coffe table) I knew that money could help someone w/ real damage.....I wanted to go down to the FEMA station and beat down the assclowns I saw on th enews rolling up in a benz to collect their cards.......
