Getting a lot of junk e-mail lately.
What kind of spam filter is everyone using? Has it helped?
Found this today. http://www.mailwasher.net/ Is it any good?
Thanks for the input.

I used to use it. Very nice, as you can bounce emails. Definately worth the registration fees.

However, most spammers don't play nice... They send their spam out via open email servers in 3rd world countries.... Bouncing tends not to work in those instances.

I got 114 spam e-mails this morning.....I got over 800 over the holiday weekend as well....how many are you guys getting?? and they are all drug pushers and penis enlargement stuff.....I actually miss the old porn ones now, at least you could see cuties as you hit delete....

I tell ya, best thing I did was use the spam tools on Earthlink. Now, unless someone is in my contact book, it gets bounced out. Has really cut down on the spam, I mean a lot! If there is a legitimate message sent that gets bounced because the sender is not in my contact book, I get a message and a message is sent to the sender telling them what to do. Works great! I don't even think you have to have Earthlink as your ISP to use them either. Worth a shot! I also use Zone Alarm Pro, which works very well.

I use aohell and their spam filters must work pretty good because my total spam count over the weekend was 4 and they were put into the spam folder.

I've got earthlink as well, and just use Outlook - I get maybe one or two spams a month, if that. To keep it low, I use someting like Yahoo or Msn Hotmail to sign up for stuff (this forum is the only real exemption), so the junk goes to it.

My yahoo one works pretty well. And it sorts it into bulk, so i dont have to look through. I just hit "select all" and delete.

that count was my work e-mail...at home I get none....I get those "you log onto illegal sites" and Hi, I changed my address so just click on the lil attached virus and install it.....they come constantly all day since one of the IT guys left...I think he's the one screing with us....most of the guys that were there when he was get Mercilessly Spamed and the new guys don't....Hmmmmmm

Yea I got yahoo too, sends anything suspicious to the bulk folder. I found to at least look at the titles cause sometimes stuff I want goes there. I don't get much spam tho. I get more stuff from towerhobbies and ebay then anything.

i dont get to much.

what i think is funny is i have aol and ever time i get a message from woodie it turns up in the spam folder cause of woodie. it gives me a laugh

Outlook has always been to finiky with me, but my ISP (SBC Global.net, or Yahoo! if you perfer) has a built in Spam blocker that works really well. Unfortunately, all the Spam does end up going to your "bulk" mailbox so you do have to see and delete it, but the good thing is everythime I look nothing has been misplaced. it does a good job filtering witch mail goes to witch box.

Maybe you should just consider getting a diffrent email address to stop the mail. Or just get a fake one to browse with, that way absolutely none of your information gets out there.

I have Charter. Couldn't find a spam blocker on it.
How do I get a fake e-mail address? Are you talking about when I sign up for something?

Don't have that many, but damn if it isn't annoying. Same thing every day. Watches, loans, valium and penis enlargement.......
I don't give out my e-mail address that much.

Charter doesn't offer spam protection UNLESS you install that POS "Security Suite" made by "F-Secure". You'd be wiser to install Mailwasher and use that, in my opinion...

The fake email the others were referring to are either a web email account, like yahoo.com's mail, or simply entering something like "[email protected]".

You are talking about if I sign up on a site, right?

I don't put my address on anything unless I have to. Ol' lady is bad for it though.
She got a cd from aol a while back. Had some "free" games on it, so she had to try them. It put something on my computer. Slowed the internet to a crawl. I think I finally found it with winpatrol?

Think I'll try mailwasher when I get time. Thanks.

Yep; And I bet I know EXACTLY what ya found; Wild Tagent - one of the worst spyware 'scums' out there. AOL uses it to power most of it's games.

Personally, AOL cd's are fine with me; some of the best coasters I've ever gotten.

I can beleive that. Gave me a fit for about 30 minutes.
If it has something to do with a game, the ol' lady is on it. Got several viruses like that. Knock on wood... Hasn't caused any problems yet. Finally got her to be more careful.

One of my clients is like that. I swear he's part crow; anything shiny or flashing, and he jumps all over it like a cop on a donut. I finally got him to realize "free on the internet usually means it comes with a disease"... Kinda like "women of the night".

I use outlook, never had a problem with it, and never get spam.

Outlook XP 2003 for me.
With a business, you never know how people will address an e-mail.

I use outlook a bit different then most. Of course I have their spam filter set and If it doesn't pick something up I right click on it and add it to the list. I setup folders for mail I expect to get and have it automaticly moved to the proper folders. For instance I have a rule that will move all my Internet orders to a folder named "Orders" I have all mt RCNT PMs sent a folder named RCNT. I have all my PP mails sent to a folder named "PP" and so on. The end result is I get every e-mail so nothing is missed and they are organized so I can view them as needed.

The last thing I want it for someone else to decide what e-mails I don't want.

The thing that gets me.... I don't sign up for anything, don't give out any info....

How do so many people know that I have a small penis? Maybe the ol' lady on a forum of her own.
