ok i just thought i would share this with all you savage owners
i recently had my savage tore down for a complete cleaning and repair while doing the front and rear diffs i noticed quite a bit of play ing the pinion gear go i took it out and tried to shim it and found that the shims from a RC18MT will slide right over the pinion rather nicely so i prceeded to try this mod, well it work really well by using 3 shims it took all the play out and moved the pinion closer to the ring gear
there isnt any binding it rolls just as easy with or without and when put back together there is a very nice mesh between the 2 gears
here is the shim kit i used and at $0.95 a pack and you need 2 packs of these very cheap insurance for your savy

Thanks for the tip, I just took my diffs apart today, to upgrade to the spider gear mod and replace the lube. I see what your talking about with the play in the gear. I'm going to look at a hardware store to see if I can find some shims.

the stock diff shims from the RC18t/mt/b will work or if they have it its a little over priced but the brp shim kit for the 18t will work also but they are a little harder to get over the shaft but they will work might be able to get away with just 2 of them because they are jus ta tick wider then the A/E shims
