Hello everyone I am fairly new to this. I recently bought a t-maxx 2.5 that has the dynamite 26 conversion. It ran well for a while but then started to run like crap, looked into it and the piston and sleeve are worn out. Anyways I was wondering if someone could shed some light on what the difference is between the mach 26c and the mach 2 if any. I find piston/sleeve combos for the 26 mach 2 but nothing that says 26c. Any help would be appreciated

For the cost/effort and age of the mach 26, I'd get a new engine anyway. If the sleeve still has decent chrome in it, you could get it re-pinched by rayaracing.com for $25 or so. But if there's slop in the con-rod, probably not worth the effort.

I had him do a few of mine 12 years ago:

I asked for a mild pinch and they were perfect. Just a little snug that required a mild break-in to be done.

I had OSRocket do one as well long before that, but it ended up too tight. I didn't know to ask for a mild pinch at the time.

I'm not sure either are still in business and offering the service though.

I don't think I ever had the mach .26. I had the Losi M26SS which was similar, but different. It was a decent engine that came in my losi aftershock.

What I can say is you don't want too powerful of an engine, unless your maxx has aftermarket or revo spec diffs in it. The originals can't handle a lot. When I had a BB maxx, I ran an OS21RG in it. Wasn't a ton of power, but still would chew up diffs if I wasn't careful. A buddy of mine ran a HB Powerhouse 26 in his and it did fine. He had the dynamite conversion, I had the XTM conversion. The dynamite was the better of the two. Just nicer materials used and better fit/finish.

Ok awesome this is exactly what I wanted to know. Thank you. it is completely built to the hilt with all steel drive shafts billet diff cases and hardened diff gears. Billet bulk heads and shock towers, stainless skid plates ECT... so was thinking of getting a dynamite 28 mach 2 unless you can suggest something better. I'm new to nitro rc stuff but am a mechanic by trade so the mechanical side I find easy and love it but just don't know a lot about what's good or not. But I'm confident it can handle big power

Even with that, the diffs don't hold up well. I went through many iterations/upgrades. I'd still stick with a tame big block if you want it to be somewhat reliable.

Really sucks that you aren't getting into things 10 years ago. You could find 10 decent cheap engines for a basher. These days, it's slim pickings. Even a mild 21 would work well, then you can gear it a bit high which will soften the torque on the diffs/trans, but still have the RPM's to really go well. But most RTR engines are large displacement now to give a larger amount of power cheaply.

The mach 28 or Big Red would be decent engines, however, the pull/spin start is fragile and the "pull" part of it likes to break, so I usually steer people clear of those. Dynamite does sell some cheaper big blocks that are pull-start only, but I didn't see them in stock when I checked before when I commented. DYNE0570 was the 21, DYNE0571 is the 28.

The SH21 is in stock on amain. I've run a few various SH engines. They weren't awful, similar probably to the 2 dynamite's I mentioned:
https://www.amainhobbies.com/sh-eng...-exhaust-pull-start-engine-shept002b3/p509066

One thing that stinks about them though is they use a plastic backplate... XTM did that too back in the day, was weird. Cheap engines, so probably just a cost cutting measure.

The SH 28 they have has an aluminum back plate, should be decent for a few gallons at least:

Won't be neck snapping power, but decent for a basher.

might need to see some pics to make sure, but the Mach 26C was the one that came in the Losi LST, you can still get quite a few parts for it.
Piston/Sleeve Part #DYN0905
found one for sale here:

i would look into the conn rod bushings and make sure no slop, or might need new ones of those. also would be a good time to swap out the bearings if going this route.
it is a great engine, but as said above, it would probably be more cost effective to get a re-pinch, or a new engine flat out.

Forgot about that one. Had a flat top blue head on it if I remember right. Some also had a weird owb issue I think. There was a washer/shim in there, it would get chewed up and go through the engine and ruin it.

so far i havent experienced any issues with mine, but doesn't really mean much lol could have been lucky. they are the internal OWB like most SH engines.
