hello i got some cars well trucks froma a buddy and they were in parts i got all the steering and throttle and all that wired up... the motors have a pull or recoil start on them i have one full car that i think should be ready to run but when i put the glow stick or pen what ever its called i put it on and it wouldnt start up...i pulled it about 20 times at least and i was hopeing it would fire right up... I'm workin on 2 projects this and a old sled and I'm flopin back and fourth when ever i have a problem untill i get the problem solved and now I'm stuck with 2 different problems on 2 different projects... all the help would be greatly like and wanted! this is my first truck that i got...
thanks!

are you priming the fuel line? need more details.. check three things.. glow plug.. air and fuel.. without those.. no run

Lets' look at the basics; glow ignitor charged? The glow plug good? The engine have compression?

Check for these three things first. The glow plug is an 8MM socket, in case you don't have a specialised T-handle wrench. Remove the plug from the engine and check against your glow starter. If it fails to light, make sure the lighter is charged/has a good battery in it, and try again (if the battery was dead).

Failing that, check the engine has compression; re-install the glow plug and cycle it over. You should hear a pop and feel resistance as it passes top-dead-center.

If it passes all of these check-outs, place your finger over the exhaust stinger and pull the recoil. Watch the fuel line, as the fuel will hit the carb FAST. Once it hits the carb, remove your finger from the stinger, and pull over. It should start within two-three pulls.

Hope this aims you in the right direction.

Heartbreak is right on except on one thing. The engine is most likely to be out of tune and so check the things he said ad then put the low speed needle(lsn) and also the high speed needle (hsn) to the factory settings. It will take a couple cranks on it and don't give up after only a couple pulls. I Would also, until you get it tuned, wear a glove or else you might end up with blisters all over your hand.

Zachary

Great point, Zachary. I totally spaced on the needles. Try setting all to flush, with the idle opening at about .8mm (or there-about).

ok i dont know what you mean with the 8mm... are you talkin about the thing that you put the glow pen or stick what ever on? i have a thing custom made you plug one end in the outlet in the wall and then you plug other other end on the end of the glow stick/pen... and I'm geussin it charges it... i asked every one that i thought would have one... its a revo mt 4x4... i primed it and to make sure it was primeing i pulled the fuel line off and pumped it and i got a shot right in the face... so its primeing... i'll take some pics tonight... i should have my cam for all this stuff by then...
i let the glow sitck/pen on there for a LONG time and the whole stick/pen was worm to my hand... i took it out side and pulled it at least 20 times... and nottin... so it must be tuneing thats the prob. also once i get it running how do i turn it off? thanks to all who have helped...

ok i have one of thos... but its a not a 8mm... its stander... i pulled the little thing that hte glow plug thing and then i put it on the glow stick and it made like a whistle noise... then i put it back and put my finger over the pipe... and then pulled it... and now I'm puttin the glow stick on and I'm gonna give it a get pulls and see what happeneds....

A whistle noise? Did you look at the coil inside of the plug and see it glowing?

FRIDGE is right if the coil dont light up...means that the glow plug is no good!!:)

The noise is probably excess oil being burned off the coil.
The key here is to make sure it lights up brightly. If not, you need a new plug or a hotter heater.

well when i took it out it got cherry red like a cig lighter in a car and i burnt my self... i just got it to start but then the coil got f-ed upo and it killed...

also... whats up if once i get it to starts the coil gets loose and then it kills...
and when i would take the glow pen off it would kill...

mine stalls sometimes when i first take off starter too. I leave mine for about 5 seconds but give it a bit of throtle when taking it off.

to shut it off there should be a quick shut off piece on the fuel line, you pinch it and it shold kill it, i believe one the car is running you pull the pen out, try not to leave the ignitor on there for two long i believe you will kill the glow plug, sounds like the needles still need to be adjusted, that might be why your having the problem with the pull start. did you put the needles back to oem specs

I shut mine of by putting my finger over the exuast........
I think I've heard thats not the correct way........but it works !!!!

Its all in personal preference.

Some say not to cover the exhaust because it will flood it, some say no to pinch the line because it leans it out, and lastly there is always the way of stopping the fly wheel.

I have shut mine off by covering the exhaust, I didn't flood it.
I have (and usually do) Shut mine off by pinching the line and I see nothing wrong with doing it either way.

Yes I find the easiest way to stop a engine is to cover the carb but the are couple ways to do it.
Pinch the fuel line
Cover the exhaust
Stop the flywheel
or
To cover the Carb.

They all work so it doesn't really matter witch one you do.
Oh and reset the needles if you haven't yet!

You're far too rich, if that is the case. Or your air filter is clogged. Either way, you're getting so much fuel in the combustion chamber that it is knocking the coil around.

Hmmm I would think that would flood it out. That would be why it shuts off. Are you changing glow plugs a lot?

My buggy seems to like it better when I pinch the lines, but the TMaxx likes it better when I plug the exhaust  What type of engine is it?
