Am I the only one that could give a royal poop about Katie Couric's debut on CBS tonight?

Geez, you'd think she was the Second Coming for all the publicity going on! Front page of my USA TODAY, number one item on CNN.com and Foxnews.com. Even some of the folks in the office are gabbing about it!

Man, this crapola has been going on for five months now! Big flippin' deal! She's going to read a Teleprompter telling us that we're still fighting the war in Iraq, oil prices are still high, the housing market is tanking and that America is fat. I'm sorry, I missing why in the hell this is such a big deal! Christ, Beason could do this job and he's borderline illiterate to begin with!

I have long since given up on the alphabet channels for news, watch some cable news and only watch a local station in the a.m. for local news, traffic and weather.

And that is what is wrong with news these days, both print and TV. They are no real reporters anymore, but everyone puts stock in what they say like they are an authority.

To the generation that grew up with sub 150 channels...actually sub 50 channels....who am I kidding 4 channels including PBS.... A nightly news anchor on one of the big three was a major deal!!! Possibly bigger than being elected president?!?


Good luck to Katie...although I like most 40+'s have given up on tuning in nightly for the news .... kinda sad ... It was a family gathering time...today it's non-stop gibberish being interneted, cell phoned, Blueberried, AIMed and Cable news networked to oblivion like Mel Gibson being drunk and how many kids Brittany spears has cranked out that fine hole of hers.

Mearly the ramblings of an aging man ... disenamoured by todays technology and the degradation it has on today's sad society!!

I liked the old days. Reagan was President, we learned "duck and cover" in school, MTV actually played music, people had more respect, Road Rage was unhurd of, cell phones were the size of gold bricks and nearly as expensive, kids didn't ambush their school mates and kill them all, pong and atari were awesome, but not so awesome as to keep you inside on a nice summer day...

I'm not implying that Katie isn't good at what she does or that she hasn't earned the job and the money that comes with it, merely that I'm tired of the hype surrounding it.

I tend to (and I'm going to regret saying this) agree with Mr. T-Maxx that, as a whole, the onslaught of technology and instant information gratification has created an almost feeding-frenzy mentality with most folks. Think about it, five or ten years ago folks like Paris Hilton would've never made the news because there wasn't any room for them to make news, there was no outlet. Now, with the Internet and all these available channels, you can become famous merely for being famous.

I wish Katie luck, though I'm not going to make it a point to watch her broadcasts.


Oh, and yeah, I'd probably do her.
