Hello,

I'm trying to figure out how to find the size tires I need.

When I type in, for example, 16.5-15 RC tires, it doesn't seem to work. Is this the size?

Thanks,

Josh

find the manual online that should give you the correct size, or go to a vintage Taniya forum its the grasshopper correct? b4 my big D I had a 45 gallon cardboard drum full of vintage parts for the old girls

There isn't much aftermarket support for Vintage Tamiya cars, but basically you want to search for Grasshopper, Hornet, Brat, Frog, Sand Scorcher where each of these cars have different tread patterns to choose from and are all compatible with each other. Compounds are pretty much the same.

If you're looking for better performance, I would encourage you to make your Grasshopper a shelf queen and consider buying a current generation race grade kit.

Something that is close to Tamiya pricing but race grade quality is PR Racing:

These kits use industry standard tires that are available for modern 2.2" wheels:

Thank you.

I appreciate what you're saying about performance. I'm not looking to dump a lot of money into this thing.

Mostly what I want to do is replace the rear sand tires with something a little more street-friendly. I thought tire sizes were standardized across multiple brands and platforms; like, I could run 225/75r-15 tires on either an old Jeep Cherokee or Chevy Blazer, but I must be mis-remembering.

After I find more AT-type rear tires for this, I might put slightly higher gearing in it (if I can find a good deal) and maybe a new motor, but probably not.

It already has an ESC in it.

I have a several expensive hobbies already, and am not really looking to sink a bunch of money into yet another.

Thanks again!

Lookit what I found in with the stuff that came with it 😁

I'll have to go through these later.

The RS-380s is just the model of the motor, right? It's not a chassis number?

Thanks!

I would consider a set of Tamiya Brat wheels:

380 is the can size motor where you can upgrade to a 540 motor, but you don't want to get anything higher than 3000KV or you risk blowing out the drivetrain

You're heading down a slippery slope of getting nickle and dimed for car that offers absolutely horrible performance. These vintage cars are best suited for the shelf and to be admired than to be driven, ha!
