well people can just creat an account at yahoo when you have to do a whole bunch of stuff to get AIM.

mIRC is better and easier than any of the instant message based chats
I'll start a room. It'll be #rc on a newnet server
to begin chatting...
1. Download mIRC from http://www.mirc.com/get.html
2. Install mIRC
3. Open...
4. Type /server irc.moo.me.uk
5. Then type /join #rc
6. Change your nickname by typing /nick <nickname here>
Now you are ready to chat
if you need further help, go to http://www.mirc.com or message me
I recommend you register your nickname on there... To do so
type /msg nickserv register <password here>
