Some people like to trade speed for torque. They gear it down to get the off the line jump and better low end for rock climbing and bashing. Not everyone wants the high top speed.

I think what Sky is trying to say is why buy a monster truck and use it for speed? It's like buying an RS-4 and trying to take it off road.

so a Savage would be better for off road stuff than a Maxx??

Depends on where you are driving, what you prefer to do,etc.

As per norcalRC's post, I dont see any better factors in the t-maxx over the savage, I have a 2.5 maxx, my savage more than takes it at all aspects. The t-maxx is not faster in the straight or from the line. Not at all. Maybe with some mods it would get on the heels of the savage, but its really no contest, the savage wins hands down! 8-0

The HPI website lists the rated HP as 2.3@30,000 RPM.
Seems a little optimistic, but...2.0 shouldn't be a problem.
What's the rating for the 2.5 Tmaxx?

Traxxas does not publicize horsepower ratings for the 2.5, so unless you have a dyno at your house your guess is as good as anyone else's.
