OS RZ no (P) HELP

hey guys,
I have an os rz without pilot shaft, I am trying to put it in my 9.5 and it seems like I am gonna need to shim something somewhere? I have a sg nut with pilot shaft and an ofna flywheel. But the nut wont tighten the flywheel up with out oodles of shims behind it at that point the flywheel seems to far forward where it might rub on brakes? HELP!

JT - alot of the 9.5's are missing the collet nut in the parts bags.
Here is the clutch parts bag for the 9.5


here is the part that should go on the shaft before the flywheel:


without this, the flywheel is too loose, and will do what u are describing. do u have this piece?

finally - the clutch nut for use with NON pilot shaft engines is to be used with a short crank, not an SG. Sometimes u can can them wrenched down, but most likely u will need to dremel off some of the thread on the crankshaft.

yes i am using the collet and the clutch nut i am using is the one in your pic with the long shaft. Its still too loose using the collet. Unless i use four thick brass shims behind the collet, at that point the flywheel is close to the brake system.

then u are going to have to cut the crankshaft. i had to do this on my NTC3 when using a standard crank too.

Do u know how to do this? If not - i can give u directions.

its actually quite simple -

first - screw the nut on all the way. count the number of threads still showing. This is the length that will need to be removed.
now, take the number of threads u counted, and add 1 or 2 more, in order to allow the nut some leaway to really tighten down on the flywheel.
second - remove the clutchnut and thread the other nut they give u, the small one for pilot shafts on all the way. You are going to use this nut afterwards to help straighten out any burred threads after cutting.
third- wrap the entire engine in a plastic bag, and secure with masking tape to keep the dust out.
fourth - use a magic marker to color the threads u are going to remove.
fifth - cut off the colored thread with a dremel cutoff wheel. if u dont have a dremel, u can use a hacksaw, but becareful.
sixth - once cutting is done, unscrew the nut off the crank. this will rethread any damage u may have accidently caused.

your done! now just continue with the instructional steps for finishing the clutch.

thanks guys project done. Cut the threads off and now its tight. Alot cheaper than a new crank!!
