MBX5R...the build

Started the build the other day and due to taking my time in deciphering what was lost in the Japanese to English translation and snapping some photos, it's almost done. Here's what I have so far, more to follow. I'm about to mount the mill and shocks.

Arrival:

Cool bag/box:

Oh boy, this is gonna be fun!

All this is gonna be a hot rod buggy? Oh crap!

Beginning steps about done, dif setup begins:

Gearboxes about done and ready for more pieces:

Front assembly done!

Looks BEEFY!
They are still using E-Clips interesting.
Are the hubs as thick and chunky as they look in the photo?

That's lookin really good! Quick question for ya jet; did ya run a bead of CA around the carbon fiber? (helps prevent the layers from peeling apart as the CF ages)

LOL, you know those are the only two e-clips on the thing, all the others are captured. The R is basically the prospec with a few other additions like the 5T shocks, this thing has tremendous droop! With long travel like that it's awesome in the rough stuff. The front knuckles are thick as hell. As far the CF goes, I will be replacing that top plate with the aluminum King Headz top plate, but I will do the radio tray. Oh yeah, suprised nobody caught the shameless plug for Team Fast Eddy on the loctite tube!

This thing will go great in my F8 Team Magic Hauler bag I got from Santa!

Looking good jet.

Talon-- The Truggies are MT's based of a buggy. The MBX5 series are buggies. Truggies get their platform from their counter parts. Most of the A arms are lengthened or hub extenders are used. Towers may vary and a taller spur gear is used to compensate for the larger diameter wheels and tires.

The MBX5R is the new buggy. Basically the MBX5 Prospec with a few addon's like the MBX5T (truggy) shocks

I hope mugen offers an upgrade pack - I'd hate to have to source the parts. The only upside here is, mine hasn't touched a track yet, so the resulting buggy would be almost new.

To convert a prospec over to a 5R it's gonna run you close to $300. I think Carolina's RC is putting together a kit.

I think I'll just wait till the official kit is released. Till then, I'll enjoy my non-R.

I don't think Mugen is doing one or planning to. They do have a list somewhere on the website about what you need to upgrade it to the R.

Looking good, brother! You going to have that demon up and running by this Saturday to race? Hope so, I'd like to see that thing whip around the track!
