What are the specs on the stock servo?
Stock servos are usually not the best answer for replacement.
Steering servos on an 8th should be High Torque with Metal gear and have ball bearings.

You may want to look at the high torque servo here.

I would not say to get a digital servo with the stock radio, unless you can set endpoints with it. w/o endpoint adjustment, you will burn it up quickly.

You need a servo with at LEAST 100 oz tq. I would say the more the better. Metal gear is also a must for steering. Hitec 645, JR 650 are the popular "cheaper" MG servos. How much do you want to spend? they are anywhere from $35ish(645) to $100 + for a Airtronics 357 or 358. Remember these are ANOLOG servos, not digital.

psu gave you some good recommendations. I'd also check your servo saver as it might be too tight for a cheaper/weaker servo
