Trimming 1/8 buggy tire foams

I read an article recently about trimming MT tire foams, but have not heard about it for buggy tires. Anyone trim their foams, and if so how much to trim?

Trim the edges of the foam so that the sidewalls can fit around the foam nicely. Not the sides of the foam, but where the top and bottom of the sidewall is. You can trim it so its round, or i like to make it kind of diamond like.

I cut like a 45 degree engle off each side so they are not square any more. As buggy said. to make them more "round". doesnt have to be exact

Hi,

Most 1/8 buggy tires nowadays come with shaped tire inserts (Pro-line and GRP) and these work better than just foams. They maintain shape better and less expansion under acceleration.

If you only have foams, yeah, cut as advised above. Both inside and outside.

Regards, Joaquim

Due to a lack of patience, my first set of foams turned out pretty bad. They caused a few flat spots in the tire from being uneven. I've got a couple packs of medium Ofna molded foams coming in the mail. At a buck a piece I'd rather use the molded foams than spend the frustation of trying to trim 3 sets of tire foams.

I trim the edges off on the outside and inside at a 45 degree angle. I trim about 1/4 an inch to 1/2 an inch deap from edge to center. This helps create better shapped tires. If you get it done good enough you will cut down to traction rolling a lot.

I just finished glueing 3 sets of tires yesterday and the molded foams were much easier to mount and glue. I did however stick with the stock foams when I glued my on road treaded tires because the molded foams caused the tire to round out too much. For my off road tires the ofna molded foams fit fine.
