Help Buggy Time!

I am going to enter into the buggy realm. I don't know much about them. I have seen some on E-bay for as little as 200 bucks.
Any Ideas as to what a good starter buggy would be?
I went to my locate HS and looked at a CEN Matrix and it was sweet!
I need some advice?

How much are you looking to spend?

For a starter buggy I would look into the Ofna Hyper series buggies. They are great buggies, and can be competitive when set up right.

200 is not going to get you a quality buggy, 500+ for everything is what you are going to be looking at if you want a quality buggy.

I have not heard anything about the CEN, but personally I never liked CEN.

I'd recommend OFNA Hyper, OFNA Jammin or Kyosho Inferno. A RTR kit will in most cases give you everything you need to run, except fuel and batteries. If you buy a regular kit you have to buy radio equipment and other necessities (spelling?) separately. Ask your LHS what they have to offer. Good luck deciding, took me weeks :P

The only buggy that comes close to that is the Duratrax axis. If you have a Hobbypeople near you they sell the storm plus for about 300ish.

The Cen Matrix is cool looking as all of them but look more on what they are like off the shelf.

go with a hyper series buggy. a good solid buggy to "cut your teeth" on. not to pricey, and will hold its own in bashing or racing.

I agree with the other guys about the Hyper series buggies....they are tough........BUT.......if you not wanting to spend 5 bills to get one for starters, you can get the XTM X-terminator for a little over $300. Very tough buggy for bashing. Had mine for a few months now and have beat the snot out of it.........not that good of a "racer" buggy but for bashing....I like it.........

One very important thing is to see what your local shop carries and has parts in stock for.......no fun breaking something and having to wait for a week to get replacements......good luck and enjoy!!

Once upon a time I owned a cen vehicle. It broke everytime I drove it. Go hyper 7. I love my hyper pbs and only paid 450 for everything I needed.

I think if there were two I would choose is the GS Storm or a Hyper 7 rig. Look em up. They are both decent rigs.

Hate to crash the party, and I don't have any cred in comparison to all the others who have responded, but I wouldn't go with the Hyper. I have one, it is a great buggy, and yes, as AC48 stated, it can be race ready with some upgrades. But it is not RTR. The servos it comes with are little more than crap, the starter box will last you a week, as will the pullstart. I saw a guy at the track this last weekend racing with a Sportwerks Mayhem RTR that was completely stock except for dish wheels with Pro Line Crime Fighter tires, and he was doing great. It came with a JR XS3 radio, and high torque metal gear servos. The radio is FM and programable. The radio that comes in the Hyper 7 PBS RTR is almost a joke. I just don't want to see someone go through the same thing as I went through. To buy an "RTR" and then go through the countless trips to the hobby shop, and waiting for parts to arrive from Tower, just put a real bad taste in my mouth. Now the deal Plaidfish may have for you might be great, coz it might be all set up for you already, so give that a shot....
