About to dive into my first complete teardown and just wanted to ask if there is anything I should be aware of before I do. Plan to start on the last page of the "book". ...GS storm RTR plus/GS .21 wP/S
The fine folks at the factory glued the tires onto the wheels for us... Only they did a real crappy job! Is there any way to salvage either the wheels or tires? NOTE: they have not come off completely or "totally" clean. Just wanna make sure I am suppose to use a pointy thing and a heavy thing to persuade the pin out of the hubs!? Most likely a dumb question but better safe than... Thanks for the advice ~joel |

on the wheels and tires, everyone has there little trick that works, ive heard of heating them up in the oven, using asatone (sp) (super glue remover) and boiling them. none of these has ever worked for me though. i just take a small flat screwdriver and work my way around. byou you wil prolly end up destroying the tire.
on the pin. it should come out pretty easy. may have to use plyers or something. try pulling out on the shaft to loosen it up a bit.

Boil them. AT LEAST TWO HOURS NON-STOP. Try to peel them off of the rims after that, and if they don't peel off without tearing, boil them some more.
Get a large pot (HUGE) so that all four tires can be under water without touching the bottom of the pot, and with the pot being no more than half full. The reason you only want it half full is so that you can leave it sitting for a couple hours without it boiling over. Put the tires in, and then throw a heavy object, such as the lid to a slightly smaller pot inside, to hold the tires underwater. When you remove them, wear some heavy duty gloves and long sleeves. This is because the tire foams inside the tires will be full of really hot water. I have done this about a half dozen times now, and everyone who I recommend it to says it worked for them too. |
