Kanai 3 truggy conversion
Hey guys.
I bought a brand new Kanai 3 last year and built it over the winter. As far as being complete, it is 100%. Just as luck would have it, when the season started up this spring, Kyosho has made the 777, and then 777 sp2. So what I want to do now, is make a truggy out of the Kanai 3, and buy a new buggy. I have know idea in whats involved in doing this other then putting on the wheel extensions. Is that all that has to be done??? I'm looking for people who have done this, or that know how to do this. Thanks in advance, Ratzo

Rear shocks and shock towers up-front, re-gear, axel entensions, new body posts, remove or get thinner stone gaurds (I forget what we decided they were called in the recent argument, lol), MT tires+wheels of course....uuhhh....that's all I can think of now, I'll post anything else if I think of it. And bumpers/skidplates if you want.
Not all of it is absolutely necessary, but gearing, axel extensions, and body posts are. Last edited by cvec7; 7-23-2005 at 1:55 PM. |

I converted my Prospec to a Truggy. You need the 23mm buggy wheel adapter from pro-line to put on MT tires. YOu need to regear for the bigger tires. Your better off going with a larger displacment engine although you dont have to. And you need the body post to mount a MT lid. Thats all the main things.

Re-gearing could prove to be more of a headache than it's worth.... but since you have a kanaii, I'm guessing $ isn't as big of an issue for you as it is for me.
I just recently tried to do the same thing. After finding out I'd need to re-gear the front/rear diffs and buy a new spur (around a $80 mod), I took the MT wheel adapters off and put them in a drawer until I have the funding to do otherwise. Just changing the spur/cb may not be enough unless you find a 60T or larger spur that will fit on the chassis. All I could find for HB was a 50T which means I'm forced to find something else that's not HB, use HB and also re-gear the diffs or give up. For now, I gave up. GS makes nice adapters though. Only about $32 shipped. http://www.gsracing.com/web/page.asp...tid=72&id=1256 |

OK terrific!!
Sounds like this will be more trouble then it's worth. Guy's. I truely appreciate your input and help on this matter, but I don't want to waste anyone elses time. Just in reading the few posts that you guy's put up, I decided against it. I would hate to undo what has been done to my K3. I do appreciate the help. I mean that. I'll just beat on the Kanai as is.

Hey man, no problem, and you're defintely not wasting anyone else's time. Now, people will know what's involved in converting a K3.............assuming they use that feature called search....

NO NO NO. It is EASY to convert it. BUT there are MANY options. You dont NEED the 23mm adapters. You will need something, and the 23mm are just one option. I am using Ofna wheel extenders, and it keeps the 17mm buggy nut. You must use Ofna Dominator rims for the monster tires then. There are also conversions to T-maxx/Savage hubs, which may be the best way to go since there are about 100000000 rims for the maxx out there. Proline and Dace make the 23mm, with Dace's being the top of the line. For all out racing go with Dace.
Re-rearing the diffs???? NO. You will need to get a new spur. JT makes a full kit to regear. They also have the towers( not 100% needed) and the new radio tray and top plate to clear the spur( 100% needed) Also you will need to raise the throttle servo and center diff. You can use buggy towers and pick up a set of Monster pirate mts to mount a MT body. The JT towers for the K3 are thinner than the others from JT I have seen,I have made up a set for a friend that were 5mm thick. I still have them(the JT's). The JT's are made for the MT bodies. Using a good .21 will work, depending on the track and what CB you are using. Using a good .28 is even better though, I have a old Force .26 in mine and it has enough GRUNT to gget those MT tires moving. It sounds like a lot, but it is SOOOO worth it. I love racing my Ofna built truggy. I have mine set up........ 30mm Ofna wheel extenders Ofna 64t PLASTIC spur adapted to my center diff( go with the steel ones) MP dish rims and regular Bow ties standard towers with MP mounts Here is an ebay that shows the kit, but you will have to look to find the JT kit, it pops up on ebay from time to time http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...ory=34063&rd=1 http://dacemfg.com/ http://renegade-rc.com/ http://www.remotecontrolhobby.com/ You can PM me on any of this, and corradopsi has the Hyper 7 conversion as well. |

a JT conversion will be all thats needed to make a truggy. you can also use the kyosho kit on a hot bodies buggy as well.
honestly, i think you would be better off just running the K3 as it is, and use the money you would have spent to convert it, and buy a new sp2, to purchase a proper truggy like an LSP, the new Mayhem ST, the Jammin that will be out soon, etc. |

I think i'm gonna go that route. psu, thanks anyway. I'll keep the k3 and run it, probably get the 777 sp, and take Corrado's advice and just by a Mayhem truggy.
