My Budget Racer...

Well, I just ordered myself a Hyper 7 TQ Sport, and a hyper .21 8P which I plan to have markallen (SEMODS) port+polish it for me down the road. Currently, I plan to use a 645MG for steering and a 625MG for throttle, then maybe later down the road upgrade to some digital servos.
And, I have to give a HUGE shout-out to Bruce for hookin me up w/ this gear! He gave me an AWESOME deal on it, $335 shipped for the H7, and H21, $50 less than tower!

Now, can I leave him trader feedback on here? Cause he certianly deserves some!

Anyway, this will be my first venture into 1/8 buggies, and I've always wanted one so now I finally have one!

Also, He's sending them in two shipments cause he didn't have a hyper 7 TQ in stock, but he was more than happy to order it! Anyway, I think I'll go ahead and break-in the engine in the savage so I can go ahead and get up and running as soon as possible. But I guess I'll have to still do a break-in of the diffs, but that'll only be for like one tank.

And, anyone have any tips for breaking in a Hyper 21 8-Port (pullstart)? I've really only heard that this thing has soooo much compression, that you have to pretty much stand on the car and pull...

Last question: Will the S-25 rotostart plate fit the H21, or do I need to buy another one?

Hey congrats on your jump to the buggy, all i can say is heat that .21 up with a hair dryer and be very patient with it it has loads of compression so it might take you awhile to actually fire off, but when it does fire off just follow normal break in procedures and enjoy the power your gonna receive i loved the two to that i have owned. Good Luck with it!

Hey corrado, I saw your servo and have to decline, I already have ths servos I need, and I'm not really in the position to spend money on servos yet.

Hey, and itsmessag, should I loosen up the glowplug as well?

t wont hurt to loosen it a little. Do yourself a favor and get a starter box when funds permit!

Yeah that should ease some of the compression, the two i have had it seems were just tighter then hell so anything you can do to save your fingers (ie) tape or a mechanics style glove would greatly reduce bodily damage, let us know the progress on it when you get it good luck with it.

yep. definitely heat up the block. i did that on my hyper and it fired up on the 3rd pull. just be sure to look over the hyper BEFORE u fire it up. make sure all teh screws are tight. my heatsink head was loose from the factory. If u have sealed an engine in the past, thats also highly recommended. aside from that be patient with it.

clean the grease out of the diffs...replace w/ diff oil.....try 5-7-1 or small variations of those weights....makes a HUGE difference in the handling of the buggy....

Yeah, my Hyper 7 PCR .21 8 port was the biggest PITA to start when breaking in, harder than my V-Spec. I loosened the GP and that really helped.

Be patient and thorough with the break in on the 8 port. I have about a gallon through mine and pinch is still so tight I need to losen the glow plug to start it on the starter box. Also, take a look on the forums for tuning tips for the Hyper 8 port. Its known as a challenging engine to tune, although this has not been my experience.

Well, I finally got the engine today, so I think I'm going to go ahead and break it in in the savage tommorrow...it's just too tempting to break it in now instead of breaking it in when I get the buggy next week....

The manual says to heat-cyle it for the first tank, but I was wondering if I'd be fine just idling it for the 1st tank or should I go ahead and heat-cyle it?

Idling a tank don't do squat for break-in.......unless you put some jumbo kongs and run it at 3/4 to WOT on a stand.....lol...but then you're not idleing it anymore huh?
the whole key to breaking it in is getting it up to a low running temperature fast and then letting it cool down w/ the piston at BDC....then doing it all over again.....
you MUST get the engine up to 200 at least but lower than 240 at highest durign breakin......anyhting less than 200 and your pounding the piston into the sleeve.....and creating uneven surfaces for the edges of the piston to hang on......

I heard that with ABC construction motors u want to immediatley get it revving and nop idling or it can in fact damage the performance of the motor. I always break in my motors without doing an idle, i want to get the motors use to the stress they are going to have when yanking around that vehicle. I sit it on a box, or a brick, and then slowly work the throttle, but not too much.
