Cooling fan
Now i know El Pirate did this, cuz i remember reading the thread. http://www.rcnitrotalk.com/forum/sho...&highlight=fan well tonight i was in Radio Shack and saw that fan for $4.95 and i said im gona do it. so i grabbed that, a switch and some misc connectors. stupid me, bought D batteries thinkin.. bigger the battery, the more power... wrong. so i got 3 packages of D batteries with no use because they wouldnt power then fan. so ne ways yadda yeadda yadda here are the pic.
now i have to go through my stash and find some 9V connectors because i know i have some from my last LED project. later o yea i forgot to mension, i had this thing on for like maybe 5 min and the metal around the fan got ice cold. cooler fuel and cooler air going into the engine. but i have to figure out a way to protect the fan so i dont smash it up like El Pirate did. |

i got no idea. its 10:30 at night, and i need to return the crap i have no use with (D battery holders and D batteris). if i get my Lamps hooked up on my buggy, i might take it out for a spin. the cold air, i can feel it all the way back behind the buggy. that little fan blows a lot of cold air. Now what i need is a temp gun to measure the difference...

Seems to me that the benifit of the extra cooling will be vastly outweighed by the increase in weight. ie, the power to weight ratio will drop and it'll decrease in overall performance. Sure, it might drop the temp a tad when not moving, but what's the point of boosting the idleing HP?
Try strappping a small block of dry ice to the head, it's a bit more effective than lugging arround an extra battery pack. |

And moreso than the heat, it's the lack of lubrication that will ruin an engine. So strapping dry ice on the engine head is pretty pointless. At very high temperatures as the metals expand and therefore become softer, and that might accelerate wear, but lubrication is a much bigger factor in engine life than temperature.
Back on topic, realise that colder air flowing at the air filter - is the same as running on a cold day. Colder air is denser, and therefore more oxygen will get packed in for a given amount of air, and basically the engine will run leaner. That's why you should be richening up engines on cold afternoons/nights - to compensate for the leaner running. I am with error401 on the power-to-weight ratio issue; and it's all good doing something like this for fun, but just realise that from a performance standpoint you are probably doing more harm than good. -uDi |

the fan bearly weighs ne thing, less then the wing on the back of the buggy. and shitt its a little 9V battery, u guys are talkin like in weighs 10 lbs.

This guy used a peltier electronic cooler to cool a glass of beer. |
