You just called it. You should have basic tools with allen wrenches, flate blad, phillips head screw drivers, a few needle nose pliers, small regular pliers, and a work box. Just as anything else, you will need to work on it, so have the tools to do so. Depending on what kind of car you get, you may want other parts as well as spare... like for a 1/8 buggy... some shock shafts, a-arms, and a screw kit of sorts are all VERY nice things to have on hand since those seem to get broken/lost the most out of anything. I've never burned my hands, but you never know what will happen I suppose, I watched a friend burn his hand real bad trying to pinch a fuel line due to an almost runaway incident from a motor that was at wide open throttle. I personally cant stand "mechanics gloves" though... for anything, but that's me.
