Grass Traction Action?
Today I was driving my violator on the grass and I noticed it seemed to slip on the grass, It took a few seconds to go, Now I am wondering what is the problem the diffs or tires or something else? I am running the x= tires and the stock diff oil (grease). I think it is the tires but it could the the diff or maybe the shocks, for the shocks I am running 30 in the rear with no preload, and stock in the front with about 1/4th inch of preload.
Please Help Doug |

Don't confuse diff grease with diff oil. I think you know the difference, just wanted to be clear. You are definately missing out on diff performance running without any kind of oil in them, that's for sure. Grass is a strange character. It holds moisture even on the hottest of days and that can translate into nothing more than slipping. Plus it gives alot. To get a better analysis of all that you have mentioned, try running it on a different surface. Packed dirt or even the pavement. Something that won't give way like the grass would. If we eliminate problems associated with loose surface conditions, we can concentrate on the machine itself. Either way, upgrade those diffs with oil. A good starting point is 5K up front, 7K in the center and 1K in the rear.

Buggies don't really hook up that well on grass, unless it is rather short. In taller grass, it really sucks! Best bet... Find somewhere else to run. Or wait untill the Pro-Line Bad Lands tires hit the street. They may help. Then again... You could always cut your lawn down to look like a golf course..
Edit.. And what Military said also. Very important when it comes to diff oil. Last edited by RoadRunner; 5-03-2004 at 9:08 PM. |

when I run it on concentrate takes off ok and it seems ok on loose dirt but on grass it takes a few seconds to take off and it wont go top speed, I guess you guys are right about the grass and its slippage I know when I run my savage on grass it acts like it is running on concentrate when it comes to taking off.
I will also buy some diff oil , I am going to start with what you say but in stead of 7 in the middle I will go with 10k. Thanks |

10K in the center will work too. I started out with 5-7-1 and went to 7-10-5. The biggest difference was in the straightaways. It pulled real hard with the thicker oil.

Slip? My Storm traction rolls in grass. Too much grip. That was with stock tires.
