Servo upgrade.

I just purchased a JR servo Z650M as a steering upgrade to my stock servo JR Z590M in my Storm. Below is the comparison data:

Z590M (stock)
Torque - 85 oz. @ 6.0V
Speed - .15 sec/60 deg @ 6.0V
Motor - 3 pole ferrite/no bearing

Z650M (upgrade)
Torque - 142 oz. @ 6.0V
Speed - .17 sec/60 deg @ 6.0V
Motor - cored/single bearing

Aside from the obvious increase in torque, I lost a little in the speed department. I don't think I'll even notice the difference between .15 and .17 seconds anways, but am unsure as to the differences in the motor type. I paid $40 for it brand new. My stock servo is still working just fine, but couldn't pass up the price, unless of course it's not that much better than what I have. Feedback would be great. Thanks.

I recently made the same purchase. Well worth the 40 bucks. I swapped out the 590 for the throttle/ brake setup. Now I have more than enough braking power. The 650 for the steering was a great ad on. I did'nt notice any lose of speed. Just lots more torque. The price to power ratio is well worth it in my book. The only thing I'de like to try, would be an adjustable servo saver for the steering. I think the stock spring on the Storm is a little weak or maybe a lil worn. Other than that, it's nice to keep a complete JR setup.

I had thought about moving the 590 back to the throttle/brake position replacing the 270 but the LHS guy told me that the stock 270 was plenty. I thought the same as you, more braking power.
I'm also looking for a better servo saver, something adjustable, but haven't found anything yet. Thanks for the feedback.

Wow, just installed the new Z650M for the steering and moved the Z590M back to throttle/brake replacing the Z270M. Two observations. 1) The torque increase in the steering is enough to when I hold the front wheels stationary and turn the controller wheel, the new servo pushes through and squashes the saver spring flat! That should prove beneficial on the track. 2) With the old steering servo now handling throttle/brake, going from 49 oz. of torque to 85 oz., the brakes are much stronger. I now feel like I have a better range of adjustments available to me with the added torque. TORQUE.......where have you been all my life ?

This is why I don't listen to the guys at the LHS. Half the time I'm proving them wrong. Glad to see you like the new set up..

I had to turn down my brake percentage on the controller. With the old servo I had it set at 100% brake but with the new more powerful servo, 100% was flexing the center diff mount. I had to lower it to 30% and the brakes are still stronger than before.
