Spilling fuel from tank cap on hard landings.

I'm very careful when filling the tank but when I came in for a re-fill I noticed that the tank was covered in fuel and of course all the dirt/dust as well. One big mess ! I'm checking the tank for cracks, looking for some fuel line hole but nothing. My theory is that on hard landings the fuel tank cap is opeing up just a bit allowing fuel to spill out. I asked some of the other guys at the track to compare the tension on my tank to theirs and they agreed that my spring/tension on the lid was much less than theirs. Anyone ever have this problem and what can I do to make it more secure ? Thanks.

What vehicle? You probably could just buy a new tank and replace the lid assembly or the whole tank.

Depending on the tank design, you may be able to bend the spring enough to give you extra tension. I just did it on my maxx tank, and it worked out fine.

GS Storm. I thought of bending the spring as well, to give it a little more tension. I just finished cleaning it and tried to simulate a hard landing by shaking the tank with some fuel in it and I did manage to get a little seapage (sp?) around the cap. I'm going to try and work the spring some but tanks are cheap and it wouldn't hurt to have a spare on hand.

Chances are you are going to break a few anyway, definately a good idea to get a couple in stock.

On most buggy tanks including the storm you can tighten down the plate under the lid that holds the o-ring in place. That will squeeze the o-ring out a little and make a better seal. I had to do that on my storm tank and also the ofna tank in my cybermaxx.

Cool. I've gone through more tanks than I can count. I'm currently using an aluminum one that I have affixed a plastic neck and lid on. Although, I'm having a hard time finding something that sticks to both plastic and aluminum. Mostly the plastic though. The al tank came with a screw cap that was just a hassle to deal with.

just an i dea that is simple and works for me is just getting an extra screw and putting it under the part of the spring that is appling pressure to the tank itself on the back side of the lid.. works for me and cut my spillage way down instantly.. 30sec fix!

Also, buggy tanks have an o-ring that can be tightened. There is usually a plastic disc and a scew that can be tightened to squeeze the o-ring out more and make a better seal.

Oh yeah, the ofna tank number is 19076.

Actually, I ended up using this one myself on both my .15 maxx and my 21 maxx:

yeah, a screw under the spring will tighten up the tension on the spring itself. slide some fuel tubing over the screw for an even tighter fit, also, ensuring that it won't slip out.

weak spring

Well the screw fix worked for a bit but we are back to leaking again for me. Anyone have any suggestions on a replacement tank with a stronger spring for GS Storm RTR buggy? Any other than OEM
