clutch bell tolerance

Maybe this is an insignificant issue but how do you all get the clutch bell "just right" up against the main gear? I use a piece of paper but wonder if there's a better way.

A piece of notebook paper works just fine, after doing it a while you will get a feel for the correct mesh and won't even need the paper.
