Buggy Tyres

Hi 1/8 buggy comrades.

Don't know about you but tyres are really expensive for me, and i go thru alot of them. I tend to be restricted to pin tyres if i want to be competitive.

When i put new tyres on my buggies and run them for a few laps, the shine is off the tyres. After a hard day or a couple of days the pins are worn down. To stay competitive and one has to put new pin tyres on. Otherwise the buggy slides like #&%@.

Just wondering what you guys do for tyres. Like me do you go thru 4 tyres a weekend - because that's expensive.

I use crimefighters. i try to use XTR so they last a bit longer. other tyres i've used are duratrax 8200 spike tyres.

I have about everything together. I'm waiting for the engine and radio gear. I guess when that arrives I am only looking at about 2 hours of work and she's cooking with nitro.

Try using a couple of sets for qualifying only, and hold a couple of sets for the mains. If you want long life get the medium or hard compounds, but you will give up a little traction with them. Just like everything else with racing, it's a give and take.

I just put the Crimefighters on my buggy, but I haven't ran them yet. Do the Crimefighters wear down really fast on dirt? Should I avoid the pavement at all costs with these tires??

i don't run my buggies on the pavement ever, so i can't say.

i was thinking of using my old spikes for the pavement, if i ever did it. They're worn down and would be like slicks, but not.

Same here. I was running Ofna +/= and really liked them. Unfortunately I tanked a rim on a shitty track and ended up getting a set of dishes and the crime fighters. haven't tried them on dirt yet (or pavement). I do have a set of hard compound Knuckles that I use mostly on pavement, when I'm trying to tune the engine on the street out front. I wouldn't run he CF's on pavement though, the coumpound seems a tad soft for that.

Pavement will eat tires very fast. If they are soft you can eat a set in a tank of fuel.

Proline crime fighter in the M2 compound is practically a one run race tire. I guess you can maybe do two runs. Crimefighters wear down too fast on the dirt and would wear down even faster on the pavement. I would try a tire from prather or maybe even another tire.

One race?? Good greif, I hope friggin not. Tires are expensive as hell and I sure can't afford one race on a set.

And I have done that! lol - the stock tires went to hell in one tank on pavement.

I love running the knuckles all the way around. On/off road and they hold up pretty darn well.

I dont run Races at the track, but I do run on a bmx track and they hold their own. I just have to adjust the suspension accordingly.

As for being competitive with medium compound pins??? Well, if you are racing, I suggest you get used to it. I dont know anyone that runs pins for the quals and the mains and walks away using them the following week. Just doesnt happen. But I guess it depends on how bad you want the victory. Like FlyinRazor said, use one set for qualifiers and another for the mains. Then at least you should get a couple of mains out of one set. Knuckles may be a good choice for the qualifiers. I dont know your track though.

You think thats expensive, what til' you start getting into 1/8th scale on road. You have to get a tire truer cause you run on foam tires.

Are Knuckles (XTR) a good all-around tire for street/grass/dirt with decent life?
