what do you mean gears ? clutch bell ? - as far as i know all 1/8 off road use the same bell - so a mugen/ofna/kyosho would work

From what I know but I could be wrong is people don't mess with gearing for low end or top end. They choose motors for that.

any hobby store, just as for the size clutch bell you want.. i think 12 is the smallest ive seen(quicker accel less top end), and i know you can go up to 16-17 (more top end - slower accel) tooth on the bell..

Yeah it's cheaper but I am asking a question here honestly, not trying to be a smart ass so wouldn't it be more effective as far as low end\high end results to switch the motor? I know people that switch there buttons from turbo to normal also to get this effect. I for one have a higer rpm, higher speed buggy engine. Right now I am looking for a short stroke low end racer for short tracks. Gearing makes sense but I just have never seen anyone do it (not like I have seen more then 10-12 real races outside of my local club) they adjust the clutches as far as how many shoes, what material the shoes are, and the type of springs for the clutch. My understanding thus far and I ask because I want to know if I am wrong is the change from short tracks to long tracks with buggies you adjust engine, pipe, clutch, and I have seen the button swap also as well as some fine tunning with different glow plugs. I am just a beginer as far as racing goes though,

hum i understood ya and agree , but someone who is back yard bashing isnt gonna spend 400 for a lowend motor then another 400 for a topend motor, us racers would just cause lol, thats why i replied with the clutch bells reply..
