Hey guys, I bought a HPI Mini Recon for my son for Christmas and it has run great till now. On a full charge of the battery, it is only running about 3 mph, down from about 17mph. I put it in another car and it runs normal. I am new to these kind of electric trucks and am stumped. Can someone throw me a line?

Check to see if the driveline is binding.

No binding in driveline, everything is clear. When I hold the throttle wide open, the speed changes, it is not one consistent speed. Battery's are good in transmitter.

Have you tried cleaning the motor? After cleaning, if the problem continues, you might want to consider replacing the motor. If memory serves, the brushes aren't replaceable.

its 1 1/2 weeks old and has only seen maybe 2 hrs of drive time on the street, could it be that dirty?

They can gather all kinds of dust as well as the carbon that is normally worn off of the brushes.

I spent $9 on a new engine and that was the problem, truck runs great now.

just wondering, did HPI replace the engine under warranty?
