I joined RC, today, to get your advice. My husband will be 49 in February and I'd like to get him a nitro car. We saw a Revo 3.3 (that a friend got as a gift) last month and it was an amazing truck.

He has a lot of room to run whatever he gets. I just want to be sure it's powerful and fun.

So, should it be a Revo 3.3? When I shop, what types of "bundles?" should I insist upon? I need your advice.

It would be an excellent choice.

Basically, all you will need is batts for the transmitter, batt for the EZ-Start and fuel.

Revo rtr version is what i started with and loved it!!

Id say go for it also. Great truck out of the box. And with a few little mods, that he can do later will make it durable and just a tank lol. I own 2 of them and love them.

The revo is a great choice for a beginner. If it was his second truck, I'd lean towards something else (second... third... fourth...).

If he has a friend running one, it may not be a bad idea to see what transmitter/receiver crystals he's running so you don't buy a truck with the same ones. Or your husband won't be able to play with his friend... that would be a sad day. ;) Also, going with the same as his buddy, they can swap info, ideas and parts to help each other out. There's a lot of little tricks to RC that a new guy just doesn't know.

Just the truck: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXMHP1**&P=ML
A gallon of fuel: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXZZ25&P=7
A few extra Glow plugs: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXJL33&P=Z
A 7.2V stick pack for the starter: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXKHJ8&P=7
8 AA batteries for the transmitter, go with something good like duracell/energizer or get rechargables... they pay for themselves in the end.
A fuel bottle: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXMH56&P=ML
(I like that one because it isn't prone to leaking where the spout goes in like many others do)

Down the line he may want a better charger than what comes with it for the starter and the truck, there are many that are good for both. I run one a model older than this one and it's great for both: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXRST9&P=ML

Well... the nice part about RC is that you've found a place like this for him and you for future purchases. If you listen to him later, you will have birthdays and Christmas taken care of for many years. My wife asks me periodically what I'd like to have and I give her a list of parts with links to buy online. Then I get stuff for my b-day and whatnot. Vs the typical... "I don't need anything" answer. With RC, there's always something we "need".

Good luck with your purchase. Hope I didn't over inform like I usually do...

If your local hobby store (lhs) carries the parts, then my answer is a resounding yes. The Revo 3.3 was my first nitro RC truck and it was great right out of the box. Just make sure to follow the break-in instructions and to get one on a different frequency from his friend's Revo. Having someone to bash with is a lot of fun.

Great help there, I would add a decent book on nitro engines... you know bathroom reading. :)

All together now.....

YES!!!!!

He will love it and you will never regret it.

If you did not buy it yet YES!

Always good to buy the truck from the same place you plan on seeking help like the local hobby shop. Its worth to spend a few dollars more to start and have the customer support when you need it.

revo

was looking at the revo myself and just realized its a 1/10 scale, i thought it was 1/8. whats the deal with the electric start? i see from pics it has like a 540 size motor mounted to the engine?? am i seeing it right? if so hows it work??

The EZ-Start works great. No blisters, no frustration. The motor's not quite the size of a 540, it's only about 1" diameter.

To be honest, If I hadn't bought the Revo (and now also Jato) from the beginning, I don't think I would enjoy the hobby as much as I do. I watch the other punters with their pull-starts and wonder how they can handle it. Yeah, maybe I'm soft, but if there is an easier way to get me up and running quicker (especially priming), albeit for the sake of a little extra weight, then sign me up!

Just make sure you have a good charge in your EZ start battery, nothing worse than gettin to your favourite spot and not being able to start it... ...trust me!

yes, it is great when you are new to the hobby.I still have mine on 2 of my rigs. The 7.2 stick pack lasts longer if you pull the blue wire and use a glow ignitor.I never tried a pull start just roto start that came on a rig I picked up second hand.

Some one actually makes a kit to add so you can actually start the truck from the transmitter. This would be hard on the hump pack in the truck to use all the time but great when the truck is as far away as it can be when it stalls or even during a race.
