Last night at work I was running a large cut sheet order on the plasma deck that had to be shipped out today.
Halfway through the order the plasma deck sheared the grub screw pin that attaches the main X axis pinion gear to the motor shaft (sounded just like a loose pinion on an electric rc, only louder)
The maintenance guy couldn’t find a replacement grub pin so I would need to swap to a different plasma deck to finish the order. As luck would have it that deck didn’t have the correct gauge loaded on the feeder… that’s about a 40min swap to change the 2.5 ton spools of galvanized sheet metal.
It then dawned on me that I still had one of my RC pit boxes in my truck tool box from the weekend.
Yep, a grub screw pin from an HPI savage drive cup fit perfect! Back up and running in less than 10min…
I think I should send them a bill for parts and time not lost.
I think I'll stick an HPI sticker on the machine tonight
