If it's getting stuck, it sounds like it is still tight at TDC. Try loosening the glow plug a little before starting it to relieve some of the compression,or heat the block prior to starting it, but remember to re-tighten the plug once it's started. Also make sure your glow igniter is good and charged and that the glow plug itself is still good.

Lean the LSN a little more, or you may need to increase the idle gap slightly. Don't idle it on a block, just get it started and runing with the wheels off the ground. That's the old school method of breakin. Get it warm, start it up and start driving easy in figure 8's varying the throttle. If it dies as soon as you try to acclerate, lean the HSN. Run it for a tank, shut it off, and let it cool for 30 minutes. Repat that a few times. You do not want the engine blubbering and bogging from being too rich. It wil not breakin correctly, more than likely it will snap the rod or piston. Try to keep it between 200 to260F while your driving it.
Fuel flow from idle to 1/4 throttle is controlled by the LSN. Make very small adjustments. 1/4 to full throttle the HSN takes over. Listen to the engine and lean it just enough to run clean when it is warm. allow a few minutes between adjustments. Do not do any top speed runs for the first 1/2 gallon. You can let it rev up, but let it go back to idle a few seconds. Constantly varying the throttle. After you finish the first gallon, then start to tune for performance. After all that, then you get to adjust the tranny if it needs it. Most do. If at any point the rpms slowly rise at idle, you have leaned the LSN too far. Shut it off, let it cool down, richen it back up 1/4 turn and try again. Remember to keep the throttle trim set so the carb does not close further when you go from idle to brake position. Keep the glow plug loose until it starts.

Your engine is probably in better shape than it should be with 4 gallons on it. Which is great! Just make sure you tighten it back down as soon as it's running. Loosen it a half turn or so. You can use the ignitor to snug it right when it starts. Then use your plug wrench to tighten it properly. Just don't let the plug spin inside the ignitor. Not sure if it would damage the ignitor or not.

Could be hydrolocking.
Did you purge built up fuel from the engine before trying to restart it? Remove the glow plug, turn the vehicle upside down and hold a rag over the cooling head. Using your rotostart turn the engine over it over a few times - like second or two. If you have a build up of fuel, the rag will catch it. Then put in a new glow plug and try to restart. If there's no fuel, then you have one tight puppy of a mill and the other fixes mentioned above should get you on track. One more thing, when you try to restart it, don't overprime the engine - which can lead to hydrolocking as well as damaging the OWB. I stop the priming sequence as soon as the fuel reaches the intake nipple on the carb. Then turn everything on and and put the igniter on the glowplug and try to fire it up. |
