I just thought of it more like a 4cyl car vs a 6cyl or 8cyl. More poles to smooth out the pulses and to give you more linear torque. EDIT: I'm not saying this is right, just saying this is how I interpreted it. But it seems there's far more to it than that. lol! I think the only possibly 2 pole...
