The HD gears are a lot harder. When I replaced mine they weren't really bad but I had new gears so I installed them, the axle housing where the inner pinion bearing sits was ate up. This was the stock set

The kit comes with the one peice HD gears, that's what I'm running

After rebuilding the rear on mine I sprayed the joints with wd-40, it was good for 4 1/2 runs then it started getting hot again. I sprayed both joints again and no more heat! I'm going to break them down and put some good lube on them.

I'm interested to hear what you find, I just ran mine for the first time and after 5 minutes on a 2s pack it was pretty hot.

With an external bec you can run 3s on almost and esc. I've used them on traxxas xl5's, cheap axial esc's with no problems, they barely ran warm. There's no guarantees so you have to be willing to replace it if something does go wrong. Nice rig Kurt, now I really have the itch!
