    The Bonus Build!

Ralph, I do the same with my used rigs as well. As mentioned, the radio was still NIP (new in package), but nonetheless I'll buy radio gear from a retailer from now on. Lesson learned.

    The Bonus Build!

Rolex, I agree to an extent. If I never bought any used electronics, I wouldn't own a lot of the RC stuff I do, including the stuff I bought from this very forum. Overall, I've had very good luck over the years, especially from forums. Only two incidents I can remember in almost 15 years of...

    The Bonus Build!

LOL, his last name isn't harrier, or at least I don't think so. I bought the radio system NIP off of another forum, so no receipt and no warranty. I do not have an extra RX either, but I will buy one at some point to rule out the radio itself. No more used (don't care if it's NIP) radio gear...

    The Bonus Build!

Turns out the crash wasn't my fault at all. On the advice of another club member, I picked my most durable aircraft (my sport quad) and put the radio system from the gasser in it just to rule out a radio issue since it was a brand new system. It flew fine for a few outings, then last week less...

    The Bonus Build!

Yep, very true Pete. I'll be back with another gasser for sure. The sound, cheap operating cost, and super long flight times I just can't say no to.

    The Bonus Build!

Ha ha, funny you mention playing in the wind. That's one of my favorite things to do actually. I was watching my friend Mike harrier / hover a 26% Yak54 around like a madman the other day, I have video I'll get up at some point of him doing it.

Or, just tighten the plug till the crush washer bottoms out. :D Besides, Futaba doesn't use satellites. Yeah, it sucked Ralph, but I'm proud of myself, I handled it very well. Don't think I even consulted the sailors dictionary once.

    The Bonus Build!

Well, I tried to be as safe as I could Ralph, but not safe enough it appears. Sometimes. life just gives you lemons. We did a post crash analysis, and it appears the spark plug backed out just a bit, which would have created a lot of EMI, and the RX lost signal, and in she went. I tightened that...

    The Bonus Build!

No maiden today. This build was two firsts for me, first giant scale, and first gasser. So I had some of the long time guys at the club inspect it, and there were some things that could be done better, and one that needed fixed ASAP on a gasser. That being a metal throttle linkage connected to a...

    The Bonus Build!

Well, she's as ready as she'll ever be. Ready for a kick ass day with my first giant scale bird tomorrow. Beer for scale of course. :D

I've seen it probably ten times Pete, I agree, great movie.

    The Bonus Build!

LOL, thanks hamz! Starting to look like an airplane now. Cut the location and mounted my landing gear, mounted my IBEC and ignition, engine is mounted, made my choke and throttle linkages and fuel line ran. Had they not shorted me on tygon fuel tubing, I'd have been done tonight. Didn't have...

    The Bonus Build!

Thanks buddy! I'll ask Lou if he'll take some video for me.

    The Bonus Build!

Got a little more done tonight, won't be long now, I can smell the pre-mix! :D I opted to go buy a saw and some small stock, and epoxy in mounting platforms for most of my gear. Maybe overkill, but I prefer this method. Got my Tech Aero Ultra IBEC mounted up right next to the ignition, as...

    The Bonus Build!

Ralph, yes, at Ingles. One of my whopping two options I have here for groceries. I'll do that next time, thanks! Pete, yeah, it's pretty big. My first giant scale and first gasser, so that's cool in and of itself to me. No FPV for this one, that's the other plane I'm working on. The whole idea...

    The Bonus Build!

^^Nice rig Got a little more done tonight. I had read to use this stuff for my muffler gasket, and to hold the muffler bolts in place also. One bolt between the standoffs and firewall, and a bit of trimming and muffler fits fine now. I trimmed and cleaned this up a bit more after...

    The Bonus Build!

Well, I highly recommend a foamy for a first plane. Easy to repair, and they float. LOL

    The Bonus Build!

Good to see you around Loring! I haven't touched anything ground based since last winter. Flying is the only thing I mess with RC these days. Maybe that'll change, or maybe I'll sell off all the ground rigs if it doesn't. Ralph, there's always sea planes. :D

    The Bonus Build!

LOL, thanks for the tips Ralph. No craft stores anywhere near here BTW, so I make do with what I have around me. Got some more done today. Got some more done this evening. Got my rudder and elevator servo locations cut, and mounted the servos, labeled the wires at the other end while I was...

    The Bonus Build!

Got the tail completely finished up. That's the most time consuming, should move faster from here. Got the tail wheel mounted, measured, bent and installed into the rudder. Cut for the control horns and epoxied them in place also. All done, hinges are drying now. That's a four foot work...
