for sure if your smoking from the head id guess your well over 300 degrees, which is very bad, id go with rolex get a temp gun go back to stock carb settings which is on the www.traxxas.com website you should not be above 260 i keep mine about 250 on my 2.5

the ez start is junk thats all it is to it, i went to pull start for all my engines i would advise to do the same if you buy a trx 3.3 they should come with the pull start i would leave it go to the hobby shop and get the dynamite metered glow igniter for 20 bucks and call it a day if you dont...
it happen to me on the first motor i bought, i didnt check for gaulding which i should of did but i did use a hair dryer and it was able to start before that i could not get the piston to move at all the pitch too tight on a fresh trx 3.3but I'm sure its a similar issue
