    Main gear problems

The clutch-bell at idle really shouldn't be rotating. All things being right, the engines idle speed can be set low enough for it to idle and the clutch to be disengaged enough for the truck to stay put in place. Yeah, if you pick it up, the tires may rotate at an easy pace, but that's with no...

    OS or Picco?

Joey - I'm surprised that the OS has more torque. I would expect the larger displacement to sway that in the Picco's favor. I'm not surprised that the OS is snappier on the throttle though. Some simple mods to the Picco can take care of that. The Picco's crankshaft is pretty crude. RAK12 -...

    Cool Upgrades?

Another vote for RPM. Never liked the stock pipe. Swap out the exhaust. THS has nice set-ups. Add-ons I'd upgrade the stock rocker arm push rods with Traxxas red 7075-T6 aluminum. Swap out the stock turnbuckles for Lundsford Ti - although those Traxxas aluminum ones look pretty sweet...

    OS or Picco?

Tower Hobbies has the Picco 26 Max for 200.00, the Red Dot version of the Picco 26 Max for 220.00 and the OS 21TM for 270.00. I run the Picco Outlaw 26 - which shares the same piston/cylinder with the 26 Max. It's a good engine with a lot of bottom end torque. In stock form it's listed as...

    Main gear problems

Not familiar with your vehicle, but am wondering if you set your gear mesh right. Are the engine mount and motor mount screws lock-tited in place? How much did you - or has it been run with the metal gear? If a lot, that may have damaged the remaining gear to where it's eating up the new...

    Top best engines

How much are you looking to spend? Tower hobbies carries OS engines and like Picco they make a good product. I'd also look at Nitrohouse.com and wouldn't rule out eBay. The bay offers a large selection of new engines and really good ones sometimes go for a bargain. I would avoid used...

    motors

Depends on how you define easy... I may be wrong, but for a relatively straight fit something like the Picco .26 JL Red-Dot is what I think of - and even then you need a special engine mount. At that point, you open up a whole new realm of possibilities.

Yep. You'll want to customize it (or any truck you buy) anyways. Use the stock engine through it's life cycle and spend the savings on other upgrades.

    ez start pinion gear problem

Ya gotta like Traxxas for their service! I'll second putting a roto-start on it. Never liked the ez-start and would dump it for a pull-start in a heartbeat too.

Are you looking at bump start engines or Roto-start / pull-start engines? What size? Are you planning on staying with a .21 or are you looking at .21 and up?

    Whats the best out there?

I'll recommend either the Savage or the Revo. T-Maxx is a fun truck, but given the flaws that Revo 3.3 pointed out, the T-Maxx (IMO) is a distant third after those two and you can find parts for them anywhere.

    Crankshaft moving in and out.

I think Snook Man is pretty spot on in his step by step process - and I do reserve the use of a dowel. By that time though, I've already written off the current cylinder and piston. I think bplakers is there - if not wondering about replacing the whole engine. bp - Sounds like you need the...

    flywheel and trans question

mtaylor: You don't peg it wide open. You conduct your test in an rpm range that well before hitting that engines danger zone. You throttle it up to see if it hits enough rpms that you can feel it changing gears. You don't need much more than a second - if even that - then let it back to...

    Help NEWBIE

I don't think Joey answered your specific question, but directing you to an upgraded engine for the XL (and even to those engines) is sound advice. I've never run the LRP, but several guys here speak highly of them. While I don't have a Picco 28, I run their 26's and they make a quality...

    flywheel and trans question

Regardless of the vehicle, you always want your gear mesh to be right. By Farm Boy's description, his vehicle is working the right way for a two speed. It's the drive train pushing power through one way bearing that forces the spur gear to spin the clutchbell gear. If the mesh was too...

readu to set my engine on fire!!!!!!

You said " well it was really ice out today" and "Mind you it is brand new bought from my lhs". How new exactly is it? How much has it been run? Did you properly break it in - or were you in the process of breaking it in? What temp were you running it at? I see you mentioned 155, but I...

    flywheel and trans question

The "kick" you feel while holding it (I assume off the ground) while it shifts into 2nd is normal. The "smooth part of the flywheel" that keeps spinning... The flywheel is the big round piece that is right next to the engine case and it is cinched to the engines output shaft by a nut. By...

    tranny or clutch

If the clutch does not engage properly, then the clutchbell does not have to be spinning even if the flywheel is. When you start it up and give it some gas. Is the spur gear spinning? If not, then your issue is somewhere before that point. Inside of the clutchbell may be glazed or clutch...

    what kind of engine

The Picco Outlaw / Orion Wasp 26 engine in stock form does lack some of the RPM's that you'll find in several other engines, but it's a good solid engine and mine hold a good tune. Unless you are used to RB, Novarossi, or LRP engines (to name several), you won't be missing any RPM's. Also -...
