My new Slash Platinum showed up today, it doesn't handle like my old 4x4 Slash at all. The combination of the bigger shocks and LCG chassis leaves this truck handling very well but it doesn't look or feel like an SC truck....no sliding around the corner slightly lifting a front tire, and the rear doesn't squat enough while under hard acceleration. The new VXL-3 reminds me of the old Mamba Max esc and it does a better job staying cool on 3s, thats a nice upgrade by Traxxas for sure!

Just installed the Sidewinder 8th, it's like Traxxas was expecting this upgrade. The RX box has to be moved up front, the chassis already has the mounting holes for this. Once the RX box is out of the way the Sidewinder esc dropped right in and uses existing holes, the motor drops right in. It's geared 18/54 on 4s, my radio doesn't have much range so I can't open it up but it's just silly!

I have to hand it to Traxxas, even with this set up and the S1 tires the truck doesn't wheelie.

I didn't get a pic of the body before it was ran but it's just a single color with a few decals

Ok so on 6s it can wheelie lol

Mine won't wheelie on 4's with the stock tires either, but switch them to trenchers and its a wheelie monster!!

They way it spins the tires it will need new tires soon, I'll take a look at the trenches.

Did a speed test today, geared 18/54 powered by a pair of Traxxas 3S 1400 packs that I used in the merv. The first few passes it wanted to take flight at around 50 mph, I removed the body and got 4 more passes before the batteries went dead. With freshly charged packs and more run way I think it has a little more in it with this gearing. I'll try the 50T spur before long.

Although I'm not the biggest traxxas supporter, I think that the slash is capable of higher speeds, it does share a lot of same/similar parts as the X0-1, in fact the only other R/C guy in my area uses X0-1 CVDs in his slash 4x4, but I believe you need to do a bearing swap?!

The Slash is one of the better Traxxas rc's for sure! You have to go to a 6mm output shaft in the diffs to use the xo, Revo, or maxx cvd's , the diff case and gears are the same. I have seen the stock Revo shafts cut shorter and used on the Slash also

Interesting, I could use the X0-1 CVDs, but I need to source the ceramic bearings for the hubs, in fact the spool/lockers I ordered have 6mm outputs. Thanks for the info, much appreciated.

With all the similar parts between the X0-1, and the 4x4 slash, why haven't people started mixing and matching suspension components?........dropped slash? Lifted X0-1? I'm just saying those are the first things I'd've tried.

I dont really see the similarities your talking about. I'm not very familiar with the co but at a glance it looks like the shock are similar but not much else.

Here's how I see these rc's.

The Slash with the LCG chassis is already too low for off-road bashing so I couldn't imagine wanting it any lower.

If your not going 100 mph with the xo you wasted your money.

Just my opinion

The bulkheads are the same, so are the lower a-arms, and if the bulkheads are the same then both vehicles shock towers bolt on the same way, which would eventually lead to bolting up the shocks the same way, even if you had to use the same shocks front, and rear.

But you are right 100% if your not doing 70-100mph with your X0-1 you wasted your money, but what I propose is the thought of doing 70-100mph off-road with a X0-1.

I'm fairly certain you couldnt get a kit up to 100 MPH off road unless you were running on some extremely flat off road surface. Even 70 MPH would be difficult at best

Your right! The diffuser presents quite a problem, I didn't think that far ahead. If I ever find an X0-1 on the cheap it like to try it.
